Congratulations — you’re free from an bad relationship. It was a long time coming, but you’re finally free of the BS and you can get back on the road to being your beautiful, strong, badass self that was stifled while you were with him. Before you get back out there, though, you’ll need to go through the recovery process.

  1. Toss, shred, or burn everything. Screw mementos. You don’t need anything to remind you of that jerk. Gather your friends and make some s’mores as all the memories burn away in your backyard.
  2. Erase his ass from your digital life. You need to clean up your social accounts anyway, so start by removing everything to do with that jerk you call an ex. Delete pictures, comments, and any shared friends that are more his than yours. Clean things out and block him from ever seeing anything else you share.
  3. Crap talk all you want (to the right people). He doesn’t deserve your respect and it’s not bitchy to crap talk someone who couldn’t have the decency to respect you. Your friends should encourage you. Don’t keep it in. Even if he’s not there to hear it, you’ll still feel better. If you’re lucky, maybe someone will tell him everything you said.
  4. Go ahead and get weepy. You still have the right to cry. He may be worthless, but he still took up your time and at some point made you think he cared. Go ahead and blast some Taylor Swift, cry, and then forget his name.
  5. Blast some power music. Now that you’re done with the breakup tunes, it’s time to blast some music to make you feel empowered. Embrace some single women tunes that make you remember how much better it is being single.
  6. Hook up with the hottest guy around. You deserve to be superficial right now. Don’t think about personality or anything else. Just hook up with a hot guy and walk away when it’s done. No attachments and hours of fun.
  7. Find some arm candy. Show the world you don’t give a damn and get you a nice piece of arm candy. Fake it if you want with your best guy friend. Just make sure you flaunt him whenever your ex might be around. Even better, find several guys and prove to yourself and the world how irresistible you still are.
  8. Do whatever you want to do. There’s nothing like a relationship to ruin everything. You’ve been held back from doing all the things you love, but you’re free now, so start doing any and everything you want. No one’s going to judge you, and if they try, tell them to go away. It’s your life and you should live it on your terms.
  9. Go off alone or with the girls. Now that you’re not ashamed to go out in public thanks to Master Dumbass, it’s time to spend some quality time with yourself or your friends. Plan a solo vacation or a much needed girls night. Better yet, do both. You’re single and you need to enjoy it while it lasts. After something like this, you’ll probably want to be single for a while.
  10. Make it obvious you’re too independent to care. You don’t need a man to be happy, and anyone who tells you that you do is full of crap. You’re a strong, independent woman. You’ve got a career, your own place, great friends, your own hobbies, and your own life to live. If the right guy comes along, fine. If not, you’re good on your own.
  11. Laugh about it and move on. You’re not getting that time back, so stop living with regret. Get with your friends and start laughing about all the stupid crap you put up with. The more you laugh, the easier it is to forget about it and move on.
