16 Great Reasons To Go Makeup-Free

Any woman who cares about her appearance must spend at least an hour a day carefully applying makeup. Yeah, I don’t think so. It’s great if you love to wear makeup and looking flawless is your thing. If you’re like me, you get tired of going through the same tired routine day after day. Wouldn’t be great to go makeup-free?

Breathe, ladies! It’s okay. Trust me when I say your skin will thank you. I still love my lipstick, but I spend most of my days without makeup and it’s one of the best choices I’ve made.

  1. The natural look is hot. Seriously, you look amazing with no makeup on. It’s also kind of a big beauty trend right now. Why not jump on board one of the easiest beauty trends and put away the makeup for a day?
  2. Have you seen the cost? Think back over the last year at how much you’ve spent on foundation, concealer, mascara, eye shadow, lipstick, highlighter, bronzer, etc. It adds up. I did my best estimate and realized I’d spent around $200. I could definitely use that for something better.
  3. Finding the right color is a pain. It’s like playing some screwed up version of Russian roulette. Sure, it says Fair, but will it really be Fair on my skin? By the time you find the colors that work perfectly, they change them all up again. Did I mention I hate shopping for makeup?
  4. It clogs up your pores. I don’t care what the label says, any makeup you put on your skin is getting in your pores. It’s trapping bacteria and sweat. The more often you wear it, the more likely you are to have acne and dull skin where dead skin cells are trapped. When you think about it, it’s kind of disgusting.
  5. It looks crappy after a while. Yes, I’ve tried those brands that promise 16 hour wear. About half way in, I’m already noticing it fading and smearing. What’s the point of putting on makeup to look better if you’re just going to look worse before the day is over?
  6. You end up shiny faced. Oily skin is a bitch, especially when it comes to makeup. No matter how hard you try, eventually your face is going to look like an oil slick. No one’s noticing the makeup. They’re just wondering why you’re so shiny.
  7. Who has the time anymore? Most of us spent anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour everyday on makeup. If you only spend 10 minutes a day, you’re still spending 60 hours a year in front of a mirror, applying makeup. You could spend that time getting in a quick workout or fixing yourself a nice breakfast. It’s 60 free hours or more a year. If that’s not a reason to go makeup free, I don’t know what is.
  8. It makes you feel more confident. I know at first you’ll feel awkward, but you’ll quickly realize most people don’t care. Sure, you’ll get some snide remarks from some people, but they’re self-absorbed a-holes. Ignore them. Soon, you’ll feel more confident knowing you’re beautiful with no makeup.
  9. You’re happy with the way you look. Many women start wearing makeup because they feel pressured to do so. If you’re happy with how you look, you shouldn’t ever be made to cover up your face with tons of makeup. It’s kind of freeing to embrace your flaws and just be happy with your appearance.
  10. You’re going to get caught without it anyway. Whether it’s at the gym or stepping out of the shower at your boyfriend’s house, the people you’re trying to impress are going to see you sans makeup soon enough. Why put on the big show? Go ahead and put your bare and best face forward.
  11. It could age or damage your skin. Many types of makeup are actually dangerous. The chemicals in them could cause your skin to age faster. Depending on any sensitivities, you could find yourself with a nasty rash or dry skin.
  12. Expired makeup could leave you wishing for a paper bag. It’s even worse if you use expired makeup. Welcome to the land of major irritation, flaky skin, eye infections and more. Yes, expiration dates do matter. Don’t want to go there? Skip the makeup. Otherwise, you might feel like just wearing a paper bag out on your next date.
  13. It’s too easy to go overboard. We’ve all seen those women who think they know what they’re doing. They want the sexy cat eye, but instead it looks like a black eye that’s been smeared. Then there’s the cakers who put on so many layers that there’s a noticeable difference between their face and neck. It’s way too easy to get carried away and look like the world’s worst clown.
  14. You’re always having to touch it up. “I’ll be right back, I’ve just got to powder my nose.” Yeah, we’ve all made similar excuses. What’s the point of putting on something to cover up your flaws when you’re constantly paranoid about it coming off? It’s not one of those do it and forget type of things. You have to maintain it throughout the day. It’s like having another job.
  15. Decent guys don’t care. Don’t give me the whole “I have to wear makeup because guys expect it.” Decent guys DON’T CARE! I can’t say this enough. Good guys love seeing a woman who’s confident in her own skin. It’s sexy. Besides, they don’t have to worry about getting foundation smeared on their clothes or mascara smudges on their pillows. Trust me, guys do think about these things.
  16. Your skin just feels better without it. You know that incredible feeling you get when you wash all your makeup off at the end of the day? You could have that feeling all the time if you went makeup free. Try it. Your skin feels so much better.

Don’t be afraid to give up makeup. You don’t have to do it all the time. Just skip a few days a week and you’ll notice a difference.
