Why Smart Women Are More Likely To Be Single

Intelligence is an incredibly attractive quality and something that should make most women an amazing catch, right? Generally being smart would never be considered a bad thing, but there are still studies out there that have found that the more intelligent a woman is, the more likely she is to be single. The reasons given are mostly based on biology and the deeply ingrained issue of the fragile male ego. But we think there’s a little to it more than that, and it has to do with what a smart woman is actually looking for in a relationship.

  1. We may want a guy, but we don’t need one. Sure, there are certain things about having a guy around that make life easier, but smart women are perfectly capable of taking care of business all on our own, so we’re not going to fall apart if we’re single for awhile. We’ll probably even embrace the freedom.
  2. We’ve figured out it’s better to be single than in a bad relationship. Smart women don’t make excuses for an unhealthy relationship, we just end it. In fact, we probably don’t even get into it in the first place because we can see the red flags a mile away and we aren’t likely to ignore them.
  3. We don’t put up with modern dating BS. Sometimes it seems like you have to play the game if you want to get a guy’s attention, but smart women just don’t have time for mind games. We aren’t going to tolerate online dating mainstays like unsolicited penis pictures and ghosting, and unfortunately that’s 95% of what dating has become these days.
  4. We aren’t capable of settling. If we were willing to call any old idiot our boyfriend, we wouldn’t be single, but smart women need more than a warm body. We aren’t going to waste time on Mr. Right Now because we know we can do better and we’re willing to hold out for it.
  5. We know what we want. Even if we had to figure some of it out the hard way, smart women learn from our mistakes. You won’t see us dating one all wrong for them type after the other, because we know what we’re looking for and we won’t waste their time on guys who aren’t it.
  6. We aren’t easy to impress. Smart women know what we have to offer and they need someone who not only appreciates us, but who also offers something worthwhile in return. Superficial things like the right car or saying the right things isn’t going to win us over because we choose substance over style every time.
  7. We know when a guy isn’t worth our time. And since most guys aren’t, we inevitably end up spending more time at home on Saturday nights than out giving more Mr. Wrong’s a chance. Smart women know we can’t change a guy to fit what we want — and besides, they have better things to do.
  8. We don’t follow the crowd. Smart women are usually also independent and don’t worry about what other people think of us. We aren’t going to force a relationship to work just because we don’t want to be “the single one.” We also only date who we want to date, and a lot of the time that happens to be nobody.
  9. We’re just too busy to date. Smart women have our acts together. That means we have a life and plenty to keep us occupied. Between our career goals and active social life, a lot of us just don’t have the time to go on dates. We know we’ll meet someone when the time is right, and for now, we’re perfectly happy focusing on ourselves.
