The Adult Version Of The Little Tikes Toy Car Is Real And It Hits Up To 70 MPH

Pretty much everyone remembers the classic Little Tikes toy cars from when we were kids. The little red plastic cars with the yellow roof were massive in the ’80s and early ’90s, but now they’re back in a whole new form: a road-safe, adult version called the Big Tike.

The Big Tike was created by mechanics and brothers Geoff and John Bitmead. The siblings, who own Attitude Autos in Bicester, England, realized how similar the Daewoo Matiz looked to the Little Tikes Cozy Coupe and felt inspired to transform the Daewoo into a driveable, road-safe version of the classic kids’ toy. They did an incredible job!

Yes, you can actually drive this. The Big Tike goes up to 70 MPH and takes regular unleaded gas just like any other vehicle. It even has an airbag, headlights, and mirrors, of course. Imagine the look on people’s faces when they see this driving down the road.

It wasn’t cheap to build. Creating and customizing the car cost £30,000 (roughly $38,000), which is a pretty big chunk of money. The brothers hoped it would bring in some revenue for the company but that didn’t end up happening, so they put the car up for sale a few years ago. “We were hoping it would be out on a regular basis, create some revenue and recoup the money used to build it,” John told BBC News. “But in real life it ended up going out four or five times in two years. So we thought we might as well sell it and if anyone’s interested in buying it that will bring back some money for us.”

It’s unclear where it is now, but keep your eyes peeled on the road for it. The car went up for sale for £21,500 and someone bought it, so presumably it’s out there somewhere ready to hit the road (or already doing so). Who knows where it may pop up? You’ll have to keep your eyes peeled and give a wave or a honk of your horn if you see it go by.
