Cops Investigating Animal Cruelty Find 18-Month-Old Living In Filthy Dog Cage

Authorities in charge of investigating animal cruelty allegations at a Tennessee home were shocked and horrified to discover an 18-month old boy locked in a filthy dog cage and surrounded by more than 600 animals. According to police, the cage was covered in feces, urine, and bugs and surrounded by rats, mice, snakes, roosters, and other animals. Thankfully, the child was rescued from the horrible conditions and those responsible were arrested.

The child’s mother and two other family members were arrested at the scene. Charles Brown, 82, Heather Scarbrough, 42, and T.J. Brown, 46 are all behind bars at the moment. The family, from the rural community of Paris, roughly 100 miles west of Nashville, were all taken into custody and slapped them with a ton of charges which will hopefully put them behind bars for a long time to come.

Child abuse wasn’t all they were guilty of. Police also seized loads of pets that weren’t being cared for properly as well as 17 guns and 127 marijuana plants. It just gets better and better for these people!

Sheriff Monte Belew knew something was up pretty much right away. As soon as he arrived at the property, he was concerned that he and his fellow officers had to “weave” through loads of grass, debris, and roaming animals just to get to the front door. Things only got worse from there. “As I looked through the front door, I can see a child in a dog kennel. Obviously, (by) the looks of the kennel, you could tell the child stays in there a lot,” he said in a news conference.

There was even a snake locked in the cage with the child. It was non-poisonous, but still dangerous at 10 feet long. “It could’ve easily suffocated that child if it got a chance,” Belew recalled. According to a news release, the snake was one of eight on the property, along with 531 rodents, 86 chickens and roosters, 56 dogs, 10 rabbits, four parakeets, three cats, three sugar gliders, one pheasant and one gecko.

It was clear the 18-month-old spent most of the time in the cage. Authorities noted that his toys and blankets were all inside the filthy cage. “Everything that that child possessed or played with was in this kennel,” Belew said. Absolutely disgusting.
