Here’s What Happens When You Fall In Love With Yourself

When you’re single, it can be easy to forget how awesome you are and seek solace in the arms of another. As reasonable as that may sound, it’s the wrong approach. Before you can love another, you really do need to fall in love with yourself. When you do fall in love with yourself, several interesting things happen.

  1. Other people’s opinions can’t get you down anymore. When you’ve realized your own value, it’s impossible for others to bring you down. You see that you’re awesome, and they’re the ones who are wrong if they disagree.
  2. You give zero f*cks about what’s trendy or popular. When you love yourself, you don’t feel the need to impress anyone else. The only people who worry about impressing others are the ones who are insecure, and you’ve already surpassed that obstacle.
  3. You Google if it’s legal to marry yourself. You might as well end the search, right? Once you’ve fallen in love with yourself and realized that you’re the one you’ve been searching for, you might as well make it official.
  4. You literally don’t need anyone else to make you happy. Once you’ve fallen in love with yourself, you don’t feel the need to fill your life with “placeholders.” You know that you’re awesome and you’re all you need. If you meet someone who’s far more than a placeholder, you’ll give them the time of day. If not, you’ll happily be alone.
  5. You can see a future in which you’re by yourself and happy. You’re not hoping to end up alone, but you do know that your happiness doesn’t revolve around finding a partner. You’ve planned out how to achieve your goals without anyone else, and you’ll hang onto that blueprint until one of two things happens: it’s time to put that plan into action or you meet someone who makes it unnecessary.
  6. Your day-to-day life is a well-oiled machine. You’ve got your life figured out, right down to every second of every day. When you’re this comfortable with yourself and your life, you don’t spend much time worrying about what’s missing in your life. The truth is, it doesn’t feel like anything’s missing.
  7. When you see couples, you don’t feel wistful or jealous. In fact, you secretly mock how codependent they appear to be. You know that love would be awesome, but it doesn’t feel like a necessity at all.
  8. You’re able to look in the mirror and fully acknowledge your own beauty. Instead of focusing on your flaws, you’re able to see your beautiful body and your sparkling eyes. Just like you look beyond someone else’s flaws when you’re in love with them, you also look beyond your own for the same reason, and it’s a good thing. You should love yourself, because it’s the first step to being able to love someone else.”>love yourself, because it’s the first step to being able to love someone else.
