Man Arrested For Attempting To Pay For Prostitute With A Hamburger BERNALILLO COUNTY JAIL

A New Mexico man was arrested on January 28 as part of a sting in which he offered an undercover police officer posing as a prostitute a hamburger in exchange for her services. Now, 36-year-old Dominic Calderon is facing solicitation charges and could be faced with a fine or even jail time.

  1. This was quite the transaction! According to KRQE, Calderon was riding his bicycle around Central Avenue in Albuquerque when he saw the officer. Believing her to be a prostitute, he approached her and asked her how much she charged for her services. Unfortunately, the price was always going to be too high.
  2. Calderon didn’t have the money. The female officer reported that Calderon informed her that he didn’t actually have money since he hadn’t been paid from his job yet. He said that he would be getting paid on Friday and asked for her phone number so that he could get back in touch with her later.
  3. That’s when the officer noticed the hamburger. She noticed that Calderon had a to-go bag from Chili’s and she asked him what was in it. He told her that he had a hamburger and the officer suggested that she might accept that for payment instead of cash, to which Calderon agreed. That’s when he was arrested for solicitation, The Smoking Gun reports.
  4. Calderon is already a registered sex offender. When police ran Calderon’s information, they found that he’s a registered sex offender who’s already on probation for past offenses. His probation was immediately revoked and instead upgraded to a felony warrant.
  5. So what’s going to happen to him? Patronizing a prostitute carries a maximum six-month prison sentence and up to a $500 fine in New Mexico. Calderon will be back in court on February 25, so we’ll see what ends up happening, especially given his criminal past. Oh, and the best part of all of this? The hamburger was confiscated and put into evidence.
