You know that getting some sun is incredibly important for your health. We can all do with soaking up a bit of Vitamin D, so long as we put some hardcore sunscreen on, of course. Unsurprisingly, wellness influencers have taken things to a whole new ridiculous level and are claiming that sunning your bumhole is the secret to health and happiness.
It’s called “perineum sunning.” That’s right, you’re literally tanning your can. A now-viral video claims that exposing your backside to the glowing orb in the sky for less than a minute has an even greater effect than sitting outside with your clothes on. “In a mere 30 seconds of sunlight on your [bum], you will receive more energy from this electric node than you would in an entire day being outside with your clothes on,” Instagram user Ra of Earth says in the video.
It apparently keeps your bum clean. The same Insta user also posted a “sun worship” exercise how-to. The exercise, featured in The Tao of Sexology: The Book of Infinite Wisdom by Dr. Stephen T. Chang, apparently keeps the area “clean and free of germs.” You know what else keeps your bum clean? Washing it in the bath or shower like a normal person. But sure, why not?
The sun on your bum has other effects too. An influencer who goes by the name Metaphysical Meagan also shared a post of herself naked on a rock with her bum wide open to the sun, sharing that the practice of exposing her sphincter to the rays regulates her hormones and helps her sleep better. She highly recommends perineum sunning to anyone who wants to achieve better health.
Even celebrities are into this. You know Shailene Woodley from Big Little Lies and the Divergent trilogy? All the way back in 2014, she told Into the Gloss that she practiced a form of perineum sunning, revealing, “I was reading an article written by an herbalist I studied about yeast infections and other genital issues. She said there’s nothing better than vitamin D. If you’re feeling depleted, go in the sun for an hour and see how much energy you get. Or, if you live in a place that has heavy winters, when the sun finally comes out, spread your legs and get some sunshine.” Welp.
Sorry, but it’s all BS. An actual doctor was consulted and told Insider that perineum sunning is all a bunch of bologna. “There is no evidence that sunbathing in this way has any effect on physical well-being,” said Dr. Diana Gall. “Yes, practicing mindfulness and meditation, and getting your dose of vitamin D, is beneficial for mental and physical health, but you don’t need to damage your skin in the process from sun exposure.”
Guys, can we not? Seriously, this should not be a thing. Keep your buttholes covered.
