10 Reasons You Should Make the First Move

Traditional gender roles would have us believe that the guy should be the one to make the first move. Guys should be the pursuer, and girls should be the pursued. Luckily, it’s 2015, and the whole idea of “rules” is a little outdated. You’re the type of girl who goes after what she wants, because you know no one else is going to do it for you. That attitude should extend to dating as well, because why not? Putting yourself out there might be scary, but the potential pay off is too high not to give it a shot.

  1. What’s the worst that could happen? He could say no, and sure, rejection isn’t the best feeling in the world. But there’s a 50/50 chance he’ll say yes, so isn’t it worth the risk?
  2. If you don’t, some other girl might. There’s always someone else out there willing to do what you can’t. If you hesitate for too long, some other girl is sure to come along and snatch him up.
  3. You’ll stand out from the crowd. A lot of girls still follow the ironclad rule that guys should be coming to them. So, if you make the first move, he won’t be expecting it, and your confidence will make you seem even hotter.
  4. You won’t have to wonder if he likes you anymore. Think about it — no more agonizing over and analyzing every interaction you have with him. Make your move and you’ll finally know if he likes you back or not.
  5. He’ll appreciate the break. Guys must get tired of always having to chase girls. Guaranteed, he’ll love the chance to sit back and have an awesome girl come to him. Everyone likes feeling wanted, and guys are no exception.
  6. You don’t want him hearing you like him from someone else. You aren’t in 4th grade, so you can’t exactly ask your friend to ask his friend if he wants to hold your hand at recess.
  7. You’ll know he isn’t just prowling for a hook up, and you happened to be the target. Guys in bars can sometimes have less than chivalrous intentions when they talk to a girl. Just because he tries to make small talk for a bit before he asks if you want to come home with him doesn’t mean he’s actually interested in where you’re from, and what your favorite band is.
  8. It will make you feel more in control. If you’re going out specifically to meet guys, you’re going to have to make a little effort. There’s nothing fun about thinking you’re throwing out the perfect “come talk to me” vibes and not having a single guy take the bait. Why not just take matters into your own hands?
  9. You get to choose who you talk to. No more short guys with goatees when all you ever wanted was tall, surfer dude types. You know who you’re attracted to, so stop settling for the ones who happen to talk to you first.
  10. Guys actually like it. Ask any guy. Not a single one of them will say they hate when girls make the first move. It means a little less pressure on them, and no chance of being shot down. Confidence is a turn-on regardless of gender, so don’t be afraid to make your interest know. You’ll realize it’s not as scary as you think it is.
