If you’ve just gone through a breakup and you think that you’ve pretty much cut all ties with your ex, you might not be entirely right about that. Sometimes, when a relationship ends, it’s difficult for one or both of the people involved to say goodbye and let what you had go. Your ex could possibly attempt to make a re-entrance into your life and here are a few signs to look out for.
- You leave things on a positive note. I think we all hope that if we have to go through a breakup, it can be as painless as possible for both parties. Some breakups are more volatile or dramatic than others for various reasons, but if you’re able to part ways with someone amicably and with no ill will towards each other, there’s always a chance your ex could be leaving the door open to come back into your life at some point.
- They still check in with you. If your ex proceeds to still make regular and frequent contact with you following a breakup, checking in on you, or just asking about what’s going on in your life, it’s a pretty big sign that they might try to get you back one day. It can be very hard to completely cut out someone who meant a lot to you and was a big part of your life and your ex might just care for your well-being. However, if their contact is persistent and they seem to want to know a lot of information about what you’re up to, it could be because they want to get back together.
- They’re adamant about remaining friends. Staying friends with an ex after a breakup can be one of the most challenging things. It’s hard for things to not be awkward if you stay friends and continue to hang out with each other, especially if one or both of you starts dating other people. You might not want the struggle and the awkwardness of trying to stay close but if your ex is insistent that the two of you try to have a friendship with each other, there’s a chance that they’re hoping that staying friends will lead to a reconciliation of your relationship.
- They stalk you online. Social media provides the perfect way for anyone to keep tabs on their ex without having to actually reach out to them and ask them about their life and honestly, it’s a blessing and a curse. If you notice that your ex is constantly viewing your social media profiles, liking and commenting on pictures, and watching your stories, there’s a chance that they just can’t seem to let you go and might make a reappearance at some point.
- They try to stay in touch with your family and friends. Another way that your ex might try to leave the door open for your relationship to reignite is by staying in touch with the people that you’re closest to. If your family or friends tell you that your ex has been reaching out to them, whether it’s through social media or they’ve actually asked about what you’ve been up to and tried to get information on you, it’s a sign that they might be trying to come back around.
- They drunk dial you. Drunk dialing is always a great way to find out how someone really feels about you. We tend to be very honest and unafraid when we’re intoxicated and if your ex has drunk dialed you before and spouted off confessions about your relationship and how they feel about you post-breakup, they might be secretly harboring a desire to make their way back into your life.
- They can’t move on. If your ex is having trouble moving on romantically and doesn’t seem to be interested in dating anyone else after your relationship with them ends, there’s a chance that they still care for you and don’t want to move on with anyone else. If they’re purposely remaining single and choosing not to get involved with anyone else, it could be that they’re planning on finding a way to make it back into your life at some point and want to remain unattached for when that time comes.
- They get jealous. Another sign that they want to come back to you is if they seem to get jealous if you start dating or talking to anyone else. Jealousy is normal whenever you’ve had a past with someone but if your ex seems to be over-the-top jealous, possibly to the point where they actually try to prevent you from making a connection with someone else, it could be because they’re planning on coming back into your life and don’t want you to be taken by anyone else.
- They bring up the past. Nostalgia is one of the most powerful forms of emotion and if your ex is constantly reaching out to you with anecdotes of your past relationship, reminding you of all of the good times you’ve shared, or even sharing old pictures, it could be because they’re trying to reignite a flame between the two of you. They might think that if they jog your memory with how happy the two of you used to be, you’ll be more likely to take them back. Be aware though that this can be a form of manipulation and you should never feel coerced into anything you’re not comfortable with.
- They reach out to you for help. Another big sign that your ex might be planning to work their way back into your life is by seeking you out for help or advice. If your ex feels the need to contact you when they’re going through something and need to be consoled, comforted, or need words of wisdom, it could be a sign that they feel as if they still need you and can’t handle life without you. If they feel like you’re the only person that they can go to when they need someone, there’s a big chance that they’ll eventually come back into your life and try to win you over again.
