Even people who really like each other struggle to make it work if bad habits are poisoning the relationship. Bad behavior gets increasingly harder to ignore the longer two people stay together, until it eventually becomes intolerable. These ten habits should be avoided as they can tank anyone’s relationship, no matter how into each other two people are.

  1. Being distracted. Some guys have a hard time staying off their phone for an entire date or listening to something you have to say without wandering their gaze over to sports center. You don’t need his attention 24/7, but you can’t date a guy long term who can’t focus when it’s important.
  2. Expressing all his opinions about other women. You don’t want to hear about how hot he thinks other women are, and you definitely don’t want to hear his criticisms either. It’s really unattractive to be shallow and judgmental, so you’re not going to be happy if he’s the kind of guy who calls a random girl an insult or rates her on a scale of 1 to 10.
  3. Fighting dirty. Couples argue, but fighting dirty will do unrepairable harm to the relationship. If the gloves come off every time things get heated, it’s only a matter of time before he says something you won’t be able to forgive.
  4. Ignoring texts. It’s not so hard to text, “I’m fine, just out with the guys. Talk to you later.” In this day and age, no one is not checking their phone for hours and hours on end, so there’s no excuse for making you worry by ignoring you all night. It’s not being clingy or needy, it’s wanting respect.
  5. Slacking in the bedroom. You can only tolerate weak sex for so long before you’re going to look elsewhere. If he’s not putting the effort in, what’s the point in even participating?
  6. Trying to make you jealous. Trying to make you jealous is not only childish, but it’s also a really transparent. It’s pretty insulting when a guy thinks it would be that easy to manipulate you, or that he finds you insecure enough to fall for this.
  7. Being unnecessarily gross. Sure, everyone in a relationship lets their gross habits out from time to time, but there’s a limit to what is tolerable. Burping and farting in your face for laughs and leaving beard clippings all over the sink every day is a surefire way to make you lose your mind on him eventually.
  8. Being oblivious. Do you have to spell everything out all the time? You’re not expecting him to be a mind reader, but being completely oblivious to everything you are feeling is pretty annoying.
  9. Obsessively checking in. Your phone shouldn’t be going off every 30 seconds every time you leave the house without him. You deserve some trust, and to go out and have a good time without being constantly pestered.
  10. Sharing intimate details with friends. Even the nice guy can cave under pressure from their buddies and share juicy sex details after a couple of drinks. It’s hard to trust someone who can’t keep your most personal moments to himself, and it’s infuriating if he went as far as to share pictures with people. A mature guy worth dating will be able to resist peer pressure, have good judgement about what is private and what is sharable, and respect you enough to keep his mouth (and photo album) closed.
