Living in Singletown is not always about the empowerment of living independently, watching whatever you want on Netflix and social freedom. Okay, it mostly is all that, but once you’ve swiped through every Tinder candidate in a 50-mile radius, you might be feeling restless. How about a change of scenery?
- Paris, France Walk down any Parisian street and you’ll notice one thing—beauty. And no, I’m not talking about the stunning architecture (although that doesn’t suck either). Here you’ll find a sea of beautiful men, perfectly groomed and charming to boot. The increasingly deserted art of chivalry lives on in the French capital. And if that doesn’t do much for you, there’s literally an endless array of cliché activities for traveling ladies to document and plaster on their Instagram profiles.
- Melbourne, Australia Taking the World’s Most Livable City title many years in a row, Melbourne is Australia’s cultural capital. The people you will meet here are as diverse as the activities on offer, which include galleries, music events, parks, shopping, history and a smorgasbord of bars and nightclubs to mingle with the locals and tourists alike. Melbourne is also known for having one of the best public transport systems in the world, handy for if you’re exploring alone or bar hopping with a gang of your gal pals.
- Rome, Italy Fashion, fine wine, and men who are unabashedly persistent—Rome is for the women who are single and ready to mingle. Walking around this buzzing city will leave you feeling empowered and gastronomically satisfied (refer to Eat, Pray, Love, phase one). There are endless things to do here on a solo mission. The city is full of places to visit, largely made up of well-tailored dudes with suave haircuts. Buon appetito.
- Montreal, Canada Montreal is like that nice guy at work who you ignore until you’re fed up with bad boys and want to be treated well for a change. Canadians are notoriously friendly and charming, making it a safe destination for solo travelers. Here you’ll get a taste of Europe without sending yourself broke. And if the museums, dozens of bars and nightclubs and the beautiful riverfront Old Port aren’t enough for you, it’s also just a few hours away from Niagara Falls.
- London, England For a European adventure without the language barrier or culture shock, the British capital is your pick. When you’re not getting lost in Harrods or strolling along the River Thames, you can catch a show at West End and finish the day with a pint at an adorable corner pub. And like any thriving metropolitan hub, the men come from all over, are often well-groomed and are aplenty. Bloody brilliant!
- Reykjavik, Iceland Ranking number one in the Global Peace Index, it’s fair to say Reykjavik deserves a visit from single ladies the world over. But don’t be mistaken—its impeccable safety is not the only reason for solo travelers to make the trip. A hub of tourism, Reykjavik is crawling with a life and culture that are eclectic and beautiful. And if that’s not enough, it’s the perfect base for day trips to the famous Blue Lagoon and Northern Lights. Sold!
- Las Vegas, United States More ideal for a girls’ trip than for a solo traveler, Sin City knows how to host single ladies. Between the endless concerts, pool parties, shows and places to grab a bite and a cocktail, you’ll never be short of a #squadgoals moment. Not to mention, if you dress up a little and hit the night scene, free entry and drink tokens will basically be thrown at you. It might seem like you’re trading your soul for a free prosecco but whatever, traveling is expensive. I’ll take it.
- Bali, Indonesia A certifiable hotspot for young singles and the final destination for any Eat, Pray, Love re-enactment, Bali was an easy pick for this list. Cheap accommodation and food, amazing backpacking culture and beaches galore are just some of the reasons the tourist hub of Indonesia is perfect for solo women. It doesn’t matter if you want to party with the hoards of tourists or do some soul searching in a temple, Bali has you covered.
- Copenhagen, Denmark The coolest kid on the Nordic block, Copenhagen welcomes single women with its culture, shopping, and nightlife. Its quirkiness caters towards parties of one and being so compact, the city is quite easy to navigate. The most difficult thing you’ll have to figure out is which filter to use on your obligatory bicycle snap (on which you can explore the entire city).
- Singapore Initially perplexed that I could have been charged for bringing chewing gum into the country (oops), a walk through the city and I soon realized why. This Southeast Asian hub greets its lady guests with amazing shopping and dining, a mix-match of cultures and the cleanest streets you have ever seen. I mean ridiculously clean. In fact, the whole city is just shiny and beautiful, not to mention incredibly friendly and safe for a metropolitan hub.
- New York City, United States Ah, New York, where do I even begin? The city that never sleeps is constantly buzzing with art, culture, iconic landmarks, great food and a thriving social scene. For single ladies, the men are ambitious, international and dependently forward. And while it took Carrie Bradshaw a decade to lock her NYC native down, if you’re just passing through, I doubt you’ll have any complaints.
- Stockholm, Sweden One of the most forward-thinking countries in the equality game, Sweden is a sure win for single travelers. Wrap yourself up in the luxury of Stockholm’s designer boutiques, the cobblestoned streets of Old Town and people watch in one of the many coffee shops and restaurants. Constantly ranked as one of the safest cities in Europe, you can stroll around Stockholm’s historic attractions in peace. And all that aside, there is the biological marvel that is the Swedish man.
