  1. Minimalist Nail Art Minimalism first took over home décor, then fashion, and now it’s made its way to nail art. Cosmopolitan reports that minimalist nail art is one of the biggest trends in manicures this year. The great thing about it is you can take it in many directions. Paint a few flowers with a dotting tool or use nail stickers for an easier but equally cute method.
  2. Glass Nails It was only a hot minute ago that acrylic was all the rage with home décor and furniture. So, it shouldn’t be surprising this trend has made its way into the beauty world. Many people are stepping out with “glass” manicures by choosing to leave their acrylics see-through. You can take this nail look up a step by using a simple pattern, stickers, or gems to make it eye-grabbing.
  3. Graphic French Tip French tip manicures have been popular for years, but this classic style has gotten a fresh transformation this year. Nowadays, it’s common to see people will all sorts of intricate French tips on their nails. You can go bold with a mix of bright colors or keep it more traditional by playing with blacks and whites.
  4. Nail Bling Jewelry isn’t just for necks and wrists anymore. More people are starting to adorn their nails with bling, as Byrdie notes. You can easily buy a pack of stick-on gems online, or if you go to a salon they’re bound to have some bling to choose from. Pair the bling with a bold color for a statement manicure, or opt for a French tip or nude color to keep it more neutral.
  5. Checkered Print If you’re looking for a funky design on your nails, go with a checkered print. This print has been everywhere, from rugs to shirts, and it’s an easy enough print to recreate on your nails. You can go classic with black and white, or shake it up by opting for different colors.
  6. The Half Moon Rather than just painting the tip of their nail, a new trend is to leave only the bottom bare (or use a different color) for a half-moon effect. Harper’s Bazaar explains this trend first emerged when Blake Lively posted a half-moon manicure done by celebrity nail artist Elle Gerstein. In an Instagram post showing off the trendy nails, Gerstein noted they’re inspired by the ’60s bohemian cool-girl style.

More nail trends worth trying in 2022

  1. Fiery Flames If you’re looking forward to a hot girl summer, choose a manicure that matches your attitude. Thanks to the resurgence of early 2000s trends, flames have been brought back on the scene. You’ll see everything from shoes to pants with a flame pattern creeping up the side. Get on board by going with a flame pattern on your nails. Use black as the background color to make this manicure trend really pop.
  2. Use A Smiley Face Another pattern that we’re seeing everywhere this year are smiley faces. And we’re not mad, given how cute this pattern is. This is an easy design to recreate on your nails, whether you’re doing your own manicure or going to a salon. You just need to decide whether you’ll do several small happy faces on one nail or go with a single big one. You can even use stickers if you don’t feel confident painting the smiley face directly on your nails.
  3. Wavy Nail Art Everything ‘70s has been coming back into style, including wavy, funky patterns. We’re seeing a lot of these patterns translating into nail art. Plus, it’s an easy manicure trend to try out. Simply draw a wavy line down your nail and then fill in the side you want to be colored. Some people choose to leave the other half un-painted or you can go in with a complimentary color.
  4. Animal Print Animal print (like cheetah and zebra) has been increasing in popularity in recent years, so it’s no surprise that we’re beginning to see these patterns incorporated into manicures. You can ease into this trend by adorning only the tips of your nail in the pattern. But if you’re feeling bold, don’t be afraid to paint your entire nail with the animal pattern.
  5. Marble Marble isn’t just for countertops anymore. Many people have been experimenting with different techniques for how to get a marble pattern on their nails. If you’re doing your own nails, the most popular method is to put drops of nail polish on your nail and then swirl it around with a toothpick (or similar item). Remember, practice makes perfect.
  6. Chrome Colors Finally, if you’re looking for a trend that’s both edgy and bold, consider going with a chrome color. Holographic was the precursor to this trend, though it’s fallen out of popularity this year. But chrome nail polish has come in full force. This nail polish is known for its sheen and reflectiveness, giving it an expensive look even if you did it yourself. To achieve a chrome look, you’ll need to use a normal base color with a chrome powder applied on top.

With a little creativity and inspiration, you can take your manicure to the next level this year. The only question now is which trend you’ll try first!
