It’s officially fall, which means you’re all about wearing cozy sweaters and cuddling with your guy (or the guy who’s hopefully going to be your guy). Of course, you spend most of your dates Netflix and chilling, and sometimes, you really do watch Netflix. So what should you be watching? These creepy documentaries should be prime cuddling material.
- Making A Murderer What’s scarier than a guy who is in jail for a crime that he didn’t commit? Or, wait—what if he did commit it? Or what if he committed another crime altogether? Those are the questions that this popular AF Netflix documentary series asks. If you missed this one when it first came out, now’s your chance. You and your guy can wax poetic about good and evil and guilt and innocence while cuddling on the couch. Date night perfection.
- Killer Legends Urban legends are the best and kind of the worst (but mostly the best, especially around Halloween). Have you ever wondered if any urban legends were based on fact? This doc should answer any questions that you have. Knowing that there’s some basis in reality will probably freak you out, but luckily there’s a cute guy there to comfort you, right?
- Paranormal Survivor Even if you don’t believe in ghosts (or don’t want to admit that you do), you have to admit that ghost stories are scary AF. This doc is too. It features people who talk about the supernatural things that have happened to them or spirits that they’ve encountered in pretty incredible detail. Cuddle material? For sure.
- The Imposter This one sounds like a horror movie but it’s totally real. Back in the ’90s, a kid went missing in Texas and a few years later, it seemed like he returned to his family. Was it really him or a guy who was pretending to be him? Creepy AF. You and your BF can talk through your theories the entire time.
- Room 237 If The Shining totally freaked you out, then the doc that tells the behind-the-scenes story of that film will be just the thing to scare you once again. Just in time for Halloween, right? If your boyfriend is a film buff, this will be right up his alley, but even if neither one of you has seen the classic horror movie, you’ll still enjoy the creepy doc.
- Aileen: Life And Death Of A Serial Killer Yup, the title alone is really something. Aileen Wuornos was the first female to be called a serial killer and this movie is all about her. No, this won’t really be enjoyable to watch, but it sounds like the kind of thing that you can’t stop watching because you’re so fascinated.
- Casting Jon Benet The case of child beauty queen JonBenet Ramsay is one of the weirdest and most confusing things ever. Ever since her death in 1996, people have been obsessed with figuring out what really happened. Did her own parents kill her? Or was it someone else? The movie focuses on the aftermath of her death. If it doesn’t scare you deep down in your bones, you’re probably superhuman.
- The Keepers Another amazing Netflix original documentary series, The Keepers takes a serious (and seriously scary) look at the Catholic Church. The main storyline focuses on teacher and nun Sister Cathy Cesnik, who went missing back in 1969 and then was murdered. This is a great binge-watch since it’s seven episodes long and it’s definitely cuddle-worthy.
- Grizzly Man This IRL tale of a man who loved bears is not something that you want to watch alone—especially not at night. You can probably guess how this one ends… and it’s not pretty. While this one is totally fascinating and really sad, it’s also anxiety-inducing at times!
- Hostage To The Devil The Exorcist doesn’t seem scary at all when you watch this documentary—it’s basically the real life version of the classic horror movie. The main focus, a priest named Father Malachi Martin, literally performs an exorcism on a kid who he thought had been taken over by the devil. Yikes.
- Amanda Knox Do you believe that American college student Amanda Knox killed her roommate when she was on exchange in Italy? This doc might change your mind about whether she was guilty or innocent… or it might totally confuse you even more. The events of that night and the following weeks are pretty unsettling, and you’ll be super glad for the company as you watch it.
- The Nightmare Everyone hates not getting a good night’s sleep every once in a while, but what if that was your entire life? Sleep paralysis is a massive problem for a lot of people and that’s exactly what this movie is about. And, hey, if you have seriously bad dreams after watching this, at least you have someone to curl up next to in bed. Sounds like a plan.
