These 13 Movies Are Getting Early Digital Releases, So Get Watching Blumhouse Productions/Goalpost Pictures

If you’re working from home while self-isolating, you still likely have plenty to do during business hours. However, what are you going to do with all your free time? Netflix has plenty of stuff to watch, but if you’re a cinema buff who’s more into newer releases, you might be interested to know that a bunch of movies are getting early digital releases so you can watch them at home while the theaters are closed.

  1. Sonic the Hedgehog Obviously there was a bit of an issue with the CGI here, but now that it’s fixed, you might as well dig into the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. It’s the least serious, least challenging thing you’ll watch today (or this year) and frankly, isn’t that what we all need right now?
  2. Emma This retelling of the classic Jane Austen tale is smart, funny, and incredibly modern despite being set two centuries in the past. If you’re in the mood for a fresh and lighthearted period piece, Emma is for you.
  3. Bird of Prey You may have managed to make it to the movie theater to see Bird of Prey before they all shut down, but just in case you haven’t (or you loved it enough to want to see it again), Harley Quinn’s dedicated movie is an action-packed adventure that will make a great self-isolation watch.
  4. The Invisible Man When I first saw the trailer for The Invisible Man, I was kinda like, “Uh, WTF is this movie?” When I actually watched it, however, I realized just how clever the storytelling is. This is anything but your classic horror movie with plenty of twists and turns that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
  5. Frozen 2 This one is for the kids (and the kids at heart) who want nothing more than to catch up with Anna and Elsa in Frozen 2. The digital release date for this one has moved up several months thanks to Disney, who hopes people will be cheered up with the beloved animated film.
  6. The Way Back If you’re still harboring a crush on Ben Affleck all these years later, you’ll want to stream The Way Back ASAP. The movie follows a former promising basketball star struggles with alcoholism and becomes a basketball coach at his old high school, which sounds kinda boring but I promise it’s not.
  7. I Still Believe Calling all Riverdale fans! KJ Apa stars in the biopic about Christian music star Jeremy Camp. I Still Believe covers the trials and tribulations Camp experienced in his life, and if you’re not into the plot, you’ll probably be into seeing Archie in a new role.
  8. Onward Pixar has made another incredible movie with Onward, a family-friendly animated film that young and old will enjoy. You’ll probably cry a little (or a lot), though, so you’ll want to have the tissues handy because it’s really heartwarming.
  9. The Hunt This movie is BONKERS. The release of The Hunt was already postponed awhile back after receiving criticisms for classist undertones (or very blatant overtones, if you ask me), but now it’s released online for all to see. A group of elites gather at a fancy manor to “hunt down” members of the lower classes and it’s hilariously bad and kinda frightening. In other words, totally worth a watch.
  10. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker I don’t think I need to say much about Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker. It’s an exciting race through space with all the characters and tropes you know and love from the sci-fi series, so get watching.
  11. Trolls World Tour Another one for the kiddos, Trolls World Tour is a technicolor dream that little ones will love. It’s funny, it’s full of crazy songs, and it will keep the little ones occupied for a few hours so you can get some peace.
  12. The Lovebirds Issa Rae’s The Lovebirds was due to hit theaters in the coming months, but the rights for the movie have since gone to Netflix since the global health crisis began. The plot is amazing: a couple who’s close to breaking up gets involved in a murder mystery and they spend their time together trying to clear their names and solve the case.
  13. Bloodshot This one stars Vin Diesel. I think that’s all I need to say about Bloodshot.
