14 Things Your Bestie Will Give You That Your Boyfriend Can’t

Even if you have a boyfriend or husband, you’ll always need your bestie. Here are things you can always depend on her for that your boyfriend won’t be able to give you.

  1. You get the brutal truth. Your BF has to impress you. He’s not going to tell you that your dress makes you look like a toddler caught in a tornado because he knows you’ll be pissed and make him sleep in the other room. But your bestie will tell you straight up what your outfit looks like without hurting your feelings. This way, you save yourself from the embarrassment of going out in public looking like that.
  2. You’re loved no matter what. Your BF might love you, but would he stick around if he saw you totally lose it and have the biggest bitch fit of the decade? Probably not. Your bestie, however, has seen you at your best and worst and she’s still by your side.
  3. You get objective advice. When you call your bestie and ask her for relationship advice, she’ll give you an objective and new perspective which can really help you during confusing times. Your BF might not always be able to do this because he’s in the situation with you—and you can’t exactly moan to him about him, can you?
  4. You can live up your flaws. You should feel comfortable to have down, insecure days around your BF but it’s not always easy and you might be a bit shy to let him see all of your fragile parts. That’s why your bestie is so great! You can be depressed for days, cry about your cellulite, not shave for days, and tell her your most embarrassing secrets—and she won’t judge you.
  5. You have a bestie and shopping partner in one. It might be fun to shop for new clothes with your BF, but your bestie is the best shopping partner to have. She’ll not only be 100 percent real about the clothes that tempt you, but she totally knows what looks good on you because she moonlights as your personal stylist.
  6. You’re accepted unconditionally. You can tag your bestie in five Instagram pics in half an hour and show up at her house later unannounced and it’s all good. You don’t have to worry that she’s going to fade you out or call you crazy AF.
  7. You can let rip. Admit it: sometimes you hold back from being too emotional around your boyfriend. You try to hold back the drama out of fear that he just won’t get it. But when you’re with your bestie, you can just let rip with whatever you’re feeling, cry and let your mascara smudge, and scream like a 15-year-old girl when you gossip about your frenemy.
  8. You’re really noticed. Got a new hairstyle? Bought stunning new shoes? Really not okay even though you say you’re grand? You can bet your bestie will notice and want to talk about it. Best of all, she won’t rush in with a solution like your boyfriend will.
  9. You’re secure AF. If your message to your bestie sits with two blue ticks for the whole day and no reply, you don’t have to worry that she’s fading you out. You know that she’ll always reply eventually, and even if you go for weeks without a face-to-face catch-up sesh, she’s always the same with you.
  10. You’re not dished jokes that are really veiled attacks. When your bestie laughs at your drama queen antics or how you tripped in public, it’s coming from a benign place. She doesn’t tease you in a way that’s actually negging or toxic the way some men do. You can laugh along with her at your fails without feeling worthless.
  11. You can Netflix and chill in the true sense of the word. She’s not going to invite you over in the hope of getting it on with you like those annoying booty call boyfriends. With your bestie, you can live up those pajama-and-pizza parties and really binge on “Gilmore Girls” without her getting annoyed that you’re still dressed.
  12. You’re reminded of where you came from. If you’ve had a long-term bestie who’s seen where you started at the bottom and how you’ve grown, she’s the perfect person to remind you of your awesomeness when you forget it. Your BF can remind you of how cool you were last month, but your childhood bestie will be able to remind you of cool stuff you did in kindergarten.
  13. You can selfie up a storm. Your BF might get annoyed at your desire to take loads of selfies, but with your bestie everything—and I mean everything—is fair game for selfies. There’s no limit to how crazy and wild you can get with your phone.
  14. You don’t have to compromise. If you don’t want to watch the latest action flick or go to her other friend’s party, you don’t have to and she’ll totally understand. Your friendship doesn’t depend on give and take—you’re loved for who you are, not what you do.
