There are certain compliments women hear so often that they basically go in one ear and out the other. But when your boyfriend gives you a special compliment — something other than how sexy you are or how cute your laugh is —it really makes you swoon with happiness. Here are some we’d really like to hear:

  1. “You’re brilliant.” Being told you’re smart by your boyfriend can be a real pick-me-up because often times we forget it ourselves. When he compliments your intellect, it means the world because it’s about who you are, not what you look like.
  2. “You’re beautiful.” This is usually one of the first compliments you hear from your boyfriend, and it doesn’t ever get old. It’s quite different than hot or sexy, too, so when he calls you beautiful, it’s more about your entire persona than just your pretty face and rocking bod.
  3. “I’m proud of you.” Having your partner show pride in your accomplishments can make them that much better. It shows he’s just as invested in your achievements as you are, and that’s an amazing feeling.
  4. “You make me want to be better.” This one is huge because every girl wants a guy who’s willing to become the best version of himself. And when you’re the reason he does it, well, that’s just perfect.
  5. “You changed me.” This goes hand in hand with him wanting to be better because of your influence on him. When he goes the extra mile to let you know that without you, he wouldn’t be the man he is today it’s not just your cookie cutter compliment.
  6. “I’m lucky to have you.” If he says he’s lucky to have you, he means it. You know he’s not taking you for granted and feels just as happy to have a partner like you as you do about him.
  7. “You’re a really good person.” He loves you for the beautiful heart you have and he makes it known. When your boyfriend tells you how good of a person you are, it can make you an even better one.
  8. “You’re the best I’ve ever had.” Having to compare yourself with his other sexual partners can be hard if you’re unsure whether or not he’s had better. When he tells you he hasn’t, it can make you feel even more confident to rock his world even further in the bedroom.
  9. “I love how I can be myself around you.” When he’s free to be exactly who he is when he’s with you, it’s a huge indicator that not only is he comfortable with you, but also knows that you’ll love him no matter what.
  10. “I love the way you think.” When he loves your mind, your relationship means so much more than sex and attraction. He could listen to you talk about what you love for hours and it would be one of his highlights.
  11. “I adore you.” Adoration is an excellent form of flattery. It’s like love, but even more sentimental, and it’ll get you feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.
  12. “I’m really glad I met you.” This compliment is incredibly sweet and intimate because he’s basically telling you that you being alive has made his life that much more worthwhile.
  13. “I love your quirks.” When he tells you that something you may be insecure about is one of his favorite things about you, there’s really nothing better. After all, your quirks are part of your best attributes, and the fact that he loves them will help you appreciate them, too.
  14. “You make my life better.” His life was good before he met you but now, because of you, it’s reached new heights. It’s always a huge compliment when your existence is one of the main reasons he’s as happy as he is.
  15. “You’re one of a kind.” When he mentions how irreplaceable you are, it can really solidify your security in your relationship. He appreciates your individuality and all the things that make you uniquely you, and he’s not going to let that go easily.
