Huge 190 Pound Bull Mastiff Rescued From Utah Canyon After He Got Stuck

It’s not every day you come across a dog that weighs nearly 200 pounds, but that’s what happened to the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Office and Rescue team after they were called to Grandeur Peak on Sunday, October 13 to rescue a 190-pound bull mastiff named Floyd who got injured on roughly two miles up the trail. Thankfully, the pup is doing just fine now!

  1. The owner obviously couldn’t carry Floyd down. Rescuers responded to the scene when they received several calls of a hiker and his dog who were on the trail but couldn’t move. As soon as Unified Police were alerted to the situation, they immediately headed out so they could get Floyd and his owner down before it got too chilly up there.
  2. Floyd got carried down in a litter. According to SLCSOR, Floyd was “a good boy and happy to be assisted” as he was carried down the mountain in a litter by several members of the team, all of whom shared Floyd’s hefty weight among themselves!
  3. The team that rescued him is comprised of volunteers. They’re all people who graciously give their time to ensure people (and animals) are safe when they’re out enjoying nature. They were happy to help Floyd and hope he’ll be back to hiking soon!
  4. It seems like Floyd had an adventurous day! While it’s not good that he got injured and he hopefully wasn’t in too much pain, there’s no sense denying that Floyd had himself quite an adventure, not to mention some pretty excellent service what with being carried down to the bottom of the trail again!
