It’s hard to believe that your person is out there and that you’re going to find them and live happily ever after. After one too many heartbreaks and letdowns, how on earth are you supposed to stay positive? When your faith in love begins to falter, here are some quotes to read and remind yourself that you deserve it, it’s out there, and you’re going to find it.
“With a touch of love, everyone becomes a poet.” – Plato What Plato meant when he wrote this was that true love brightens our lives. It resurrects emotions, words and colors that we never knew were buried inside us.
“Darkness cannot drive out darkness: only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate: only love can do that.” – Martin Luther King Jr. This quote is self-explanatory. If you truly want to love again, the you have to let go of your past. Forgive your exes. Relinquish the power they once had over you, acknowledge the hurt you experienced, and let it go. Only then will you be in a better place to love someone else.
“Love is of all passions the strongest, for it attacks simultaneously the head, the heart, and the senses.” – Lao Tzu Remember how you felt the first time you fell in love with someone? That impulse did not end in your heart; it moved through your entire body, resonating with your soul.
“True love is something we all crave from youth, but there is nothing wrong with developing yourself until you find the perfect mate. If you do this, you will possess even more positivity to contribute to the relationship!” – Unknown After a heartbreak, it’s okay to take time out to heal and become whole again. This isn’t the time to desperately search for another relationship. Take a step back, focus on yourself and your life, and give yourself space to breathe and grow.
“Of all the forces that are in existence, for me, love is the strongest of them all.” – Yanni When strength fails and beauty fades, love will stand strong, pulling you to your feet even when you’re too weak to keep going. This is how love survives the test of time.
“Being deeply loved by someone gives you strength while loving someone deeply gives you courage.” – Lao Tzu Honestly, that’s the beauty of love. It fills us with courage and strength that we never knew we had. When you’re losing your faith in love, this is one of the quotes that reminds you of why it’s worth waiting.
“Love takes off masks that we fear we cannot live without and know we cannot live within.” — James Baldwin Pretense is super exhausting and most times we crave to have someone who sees through us; someone whose presence brings out our real selves. Love brings us to this level of authenticity.
“I have found the paradox: that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.” – Mother Teresa If you know the pain of love, then all other kinds of pain become secondary. You should never feel bad about keeping your heart open, even if it means you have a chance of getting hurt.
“The one benefit of failed relationships is that they give us additional wisdom in what to look out for when we’re searching for a new one!” – Unknown Though your heart is hurting, don’t hate your last relationship or how it ended. Every experience comes with lessons and we should always pick the best ones and move on. For example, my past relationship has taught me never to allow a man to treat me recklessly. I also learned the importance of communication and not shutting my partner out after a quarrel.
“To be fully seen by somebody, then, and be loved anyhow — this is a human offering that can border on miraculous.” ― Elizabeth Gilbert When someone knows everything about you, especially your flaws but still loves you, that is real love – an experience worth having. When your faith in love is wavering, this is one of those quotes that can bring it back.
“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, and endures all things. Love never ends.” – 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 This is one of my favorite quotes mostly because it captures the real essence of love and the faith it takes to keep it going.
A wise man once said, “No matter the pain and heartbreak that comes with loving, I chose to love. I won’t let the hurt deprive me of the beautiful feeling of love.” And he’s right. Your current heartbreak shouldn’t cause you to miss out on the beautiful relationships and memories you can have with someone else. It shouldn’t keep you away from falling hopelessly in love with another man. What’s the essence of life if love isn’t present?
“Anything worth living for, is worth dying for. And if love isn’t, then what is?” – Anonymous If this isn’t being fearless, I don’t know what is! It takes two to make a relationship work and it takes two to make love work. Like the invisible thread that connects two people, each person has to hold one end to keep it afloat, and you know what that means.
“We must be willing to let go of the life we have planned, to have the life that is waiting for us.” ― E. M. Forster Sometimes for a new relationship to succeed, regardless of how difficult it may seem, you have to let go of the past altogether. That’s easier said than done, but there’s no way you can truly move on without doing this.
“Love isn’t something natural. Rather it requires discipline, concentration, patience, faith, and the overcoming of narcissism. It isn’t a feeling, it is a practice.” — Eric Fromm Eric is right. A lot of times, we mistake love to be the butterflies in our bellies; the giddiness that erupts when you see him. But that’s far from what it really is at its core. As much as those feelings are beautiful because they prove that you’re attracted to someone, you should also put in more work to ensure that those feelings don’t go away. Learn to listen to your partner and work on your insecurities and low-self esteem. Be more tolerant and forgiving.
“The strongest relationships are between two people who can live without each other but don’t want to.” — Harriet Lerner Absolutely! It takes two to tango after all.
“Don’t settle for a relationship that won’t let you be yourself.” – Oprah Winfrey If your ex broke up with you because you didn’t meet his expectations, it’s normal to want to become a different person just to win his validation back. But don’t! The right person will love you for who you are.
“Better to have lost and loved than never to have loved at all.”– Hemingway Stop beating yourself up for a failed relationship. There’s nothing as courageous as letting yourself love wholeheartedly. And as much as you’re hurting now, your love story hasn’t ended.
“Love isn’t something you find. Love is something that finds you.” – Loretta Young And as much as you’re hurting now, your love story hasn’t ended. There are still more butterflies to feel, and more beautiful memories to create with someone you love but first, you have to let go of your past hurt to allow love to find you.
“If you can love the wrong person that much, imagine how much you can love the right one.” – Unknown I know there are words you wish you could take back, actions you wish never happened if you knew the relationship would crash right before you. But that’s okay. Take solace in knowing that you were capable of loving someone that much even though he was the wrong person. The right person will definitely come along and loving him won’t be a burden.
