According to one study, as many as 25% of people are depressed after the holidays, so you’re not alone if you suffer from post-holiday blues. It might sound corny, but repeating these New Year’s affirmations to yourself daily could help boost your mood and remind you that everything’s going to be OK.

  1. I’m not where I want to be, but I soon will be. You can ignore the regret of not being where I want to be in life during the holiday rush. By January 1st, though, it hits you full force. You just need to remind yourself that you’re a work in progress.
  2. I’m grateful for those who love me. They might not be right by your side, but you know you’re loved, and that’s all that matters.
  3. Things could be far worse. You can take stock and realize that it’s not so bad. Things could be worse, and it will remind you that you’re in a good place, after all.
  4. I’m doing the best I can. You’re always doing the best you possibly can for your life. You can’t compare it to others’ lives, because it’s yours and you have to live it your way.
  5. I love myself. We’d all be happier if we’d just love ourselves more. Hating yourself for silly flaws and mistakes isn’t going to help you, so focus on loving yourself instead.
  6. I’m strong, even when I’m alone. You’re not weak just because no one’s around. You’re still strong, independent, and ready to take on the world.
  7. I have better things to do than pity myself. Why are you wasting time pitying yourself when you could be working on your dreams? Today’s a great day to start.
  8. I have so much to look forward to. Say this and then make a list of what you’re looking forward to in the next month or even year. You should also set a few realistic goals to keep yourself motivated.
  9. I will do XYZ this year. We all have those goals we push to the side. Tell yourself this is the year you travel more, learn a new language, go after your dream job or whatever else you want to achieve.
  10. I’m never truly alone. The sudden absence of loved ones is truly shocking to your system. You have to remind yourself that your loved ones are only a phone call away at any time. Besides, you always have yourself.
  11. I have hope that tomorrow will be better than today. This is one of the best affirmations. Even if you fail at something today, you can stay positive and hope that tomorrow will be better.
  12. I refuse to let this beat me. The more depressed you feel, the more dejected you feel. It’s hard to go up against such a powerful emotional and mental foe. You just have to keep reminding myself that you can beat this.
  13. I’m blessed to have had this holiday season. It might be over, but at least you got to enjoy it while it lasted.
  14. I’ll make more time for those I love. You might not miss everyone so much if you made more time for them. This year, try not to be too busy.
  15. My life is a gift I won’t waste. Life goes by so fast. It’s truly a gift and one I don’t plan on wasting on post holiday blues.
  16. Everyday is a holiday if I keep the spirit. Why can’t you still feel joyous, happy and excited like you do around the holidays? You can keep that same spirit and let it boost you, no matter what’s going on.
  17. I have so much to give to others. Think about all the ways you could help out by volunteering or motivating others. What if you could make someone else’s life better? Knowing you’re needed inspires you like nothing else.
  18. Each day is a day to start over. Experts recommend leaving the past in the past, especially when it comes to looking back over your past year. Tell yourself that you get a new chance each day, and try your best to leave your past behind you each day.
  19. I accomplished so much last year. Sure, you shouldn’t look back, but in this case, you should look back at only the positives. Don’t think about failed resolutions, only successes.
  20. I will think positive, no matter what. This is the hardest one, but it does help when negative thoughts creep in. You can even say some morning mantras when you first wake up to start you off right. Staying positive is key to beating your blahs.
  21. The holidays will be back soon. OK, so it’s not so much an affirmation, but a reminder that you get to do it all again soon. Sure, they’re almost a year away, but a year always passes faster than you’d think.
