25 Things You Do In Your 20s That Drive Your Parents Crazy

People say your 20s are for making mistakes. Let’s face it — you crave excitement. You’re too young to get stuck in some boring job, living a boring life. You’re in our prime and it shouldn’t be wasted. It’s hard enough to pick out what outfit you want to wear for the day, let alone what you want to do with your life. But while you’re living it up, you may be driving your parents crazy. Find out if you are guilty of making them cringe, just like they used to do to their parents when they were your age.

  1. You listen to too much rap crap. “They just don’t make good music anymore.”- Parents
  2. You aren’t ready to get settle down. Getting married at 21 is like leaving a party at 10:00pm — you’re going to miss out on the best bits.
  3. You spend too much money on stuff you don’t need. Sometimes you just have to have it, no matter how empty it leaves your bank account. So what if that $80 sweater is worn once and then gets lost in the back of your closet for eternity?
  4. You drink like a fish. Who cares about what you have to do tomorrow? You can rally. The hangovers are taking longer to get over with every year, but you’re not about to give in yet.
  5. You aren’t ready to grow up. Why get your own oil changed when your dad can still do it for you?
  6. You put every detail of your life on social media. How can you expect your parents to understand selfies when they grew up with film cameras?
  7. You’re allergic to thinking about your career. How can our parents expect you to get a big girl job when you still have no idea what you want to do?
  8. You have casual sex. Sometimes you just have to test out the waters. You’re safe about it, of course, but you don’t see what’s wrong with no strings attached arrangements.
  9. You live paycheck to paycheck. Saving is for when you’re old… or when you actually have extra money that you don’t want to spend on going out.
  10. You don’t take your life seriously. Why should you? You have plenty of time to figure it all out, and you don’t want to wish your life away too quickly.
  11. You pursue the arts. It’s not for the money; it’s how creativity makes you feel.
  12. You live for the moment. Responsibilities can wait. We’re not guaranteed tomorrow, so you have to make the most of every day. No regrets!
  13. You spend too much time on your phone. I bet your parents wish they could take your phone away from you like they could when you were a child.
  14. You’re nocturnal. Staying up until 3:00 am and sleeping in until noon is normal, right?
  15. You can’t make up your mind about love. How can you when dating is so fun? It doesn’t feel like you’re living if there’s not some kind of relationship drama going on at all times.
  16. You want to travel. Don’t worry, Mom, backpacking through South America is totally safe.
  17. You go to music festivals. If your parents grew up in the ’60s, they remember exactly what goes down at the likes of Coachella, and they’re not happy about it.
  18. You go out to eat more than cooking at home. It’s expensive, but who has time to cook? Plus, you just can’t make General Tso’s chicken at home like they do at your local takeout spot.
  19. You curse like a sailor. Whoops, did that slip out of my mouth again?
  20. You have different religious values. You’re evolving, so sometimes your church does too.
  21. You wear skimpy clothes. Flaunt it while you can, right?
  22. You avoid your problems. Asking yourself the tough questions is hard when you still don’t know exactly what you want.
  23. You obsess over your looks. If only you could see how beautiful you are through your parents’ eyes.
  24. Your room is still a disaster. Yeah, it may look like a bomb went off, but do they know how many times you had to change before you found the perfect outfit?
  25. You don’t call as much as you should. At the end of the day, your parents just want to be a part of your life. Use your phone for something more than scrolling down Instagram and give them a ring sometimes.
