A married couple with a 42-year age gap has defended their relationships from trolls who claim the bride must be “after her husband’s money.” Jackie, who’s 27 and was born in the Philippines, met 69-year-old Dave when he was visiting Cebu in 2016. They immediately fell in love, but not everyone is on board with their romance.

- Jackie and Dave met on a dating site. When they met on a dating site, Dave asked Jackie out for coffee and she agreed to go. Their connection was strong from the get-go. “Jackie and I first met via an internet site called Cherryblossoms. I was in Cebu in the Philippines at the time when I was using that website and I noticed Jackie’s profile,” Dave shared in a recent TiTok video. “I sent her a message and said I liked her profile and I was interested in meeting her.” Jackie added that she gave him her phone number and they met up the following day at Starbucks, where Dave gave her a chocolate chip cookie before taking her to lunch.
- Dave describes Jackie as “shy.” As he explained, when they first met, it took a little while for her to come out of her shell. “Jackie was a little bit shy back then and she was tired after working the graveyard shift at work so on that lunch date I ended up doing 95 percent of the talking,” Dave added. “You could feel there was enough of a connection there to want to get together again. So Jackie and I got together a few more times before going back to the US. That was the beginning of a wonderful relationship that is still going strong.”
- They both reject suggestions that Jackie is a “gold digger.” The assumption is that the age gap between the couple is too big and that there’s no way their connection could be genuine. However, they both insist that age “doesn’t make a bit of difference” to either of them.
