5-Year-Old Boy Who Fell Down 100 Foot Well Dies After Four-Day Rescue Mission

A 5-year-old boy who fell down a 100-foot well in Morocco has tragically died after a four-day rescue mission. Rayan Awram fell through the well’s opening on Tuesday while playing in the area and emergency workers as well as volunteers had been working around the clock to get him out ever since. While they were finally able to reach him on Saturday, the boy sadly passed away soon after.

  1. The rescue was a dangerous operation. Workers brought in diggers and had to burrow through the side of a hill in order to reach Rayan. Throughout the ordeal, they dealt with the threat of a landslide given the location of the well. They were also regularly stopped by rock formations, hampering their progress.
  2. Rescuers were unable to simply go down and get him. While the most obvious solution may seem as though it was to lower a rescue worker down to get Rayan, it was impossible as the 18-inch wide opening at the top narrows as it gets further down.
  3. Crowds gathered to watch the rescue and pray for the boy’s safety. Rayan’s family as well as concerned members of the community regularly gathered at the site to send positive prayers to the child and to watch the rescuers’ progress. “People who love us are sparing no effort to save my child,” the boy’s father said on Friday night, as per the Mirror. “We pray this will be the day of his rescue.”
  4. Everyone did as much as they could to save him. It was reported that rescuers dropped down water, oxygen, and other supplies as the mission to reach him continued. While it appeared that Rayan was alive when finally pulled from the well, it seems his injuries were too severe to keep him alive and he sadly passed away shortly after his rescue. Rest in peace, Rayan.
