In an ideal world, we’d all be honest and upfront about our emotions right away without playing games or turning it into a chase. However, for some zodiac signs, playing hard to get is second nature. Even when they have strong feelings for you, they feel the need to act uninterested and unbothered. This is not to say that these signs aren’t good partners, just that you might need to put in a little work and patience for their affection.
- Aquarius (Jan. 20—Feb. 18) Catching feelings for an Aquarius is going to test your patience because they always run hot and cold. One minute they like you and want to spend every hour with you, the next they feel like you’re suffocating them. They like to play fast and loose when it comes to dating because it keeps them in the position of power. They need to know they’re in control of the outcome of things. This sign tends to get all up in their heads and this often prevents them from simply living in the moment. They won’t settle down until they’re sure they’ve found a partner that can match their energy and desires.
- Capricorn (Dec. 22—Jan. 19) When they meet someone new, these guys tend to play hard to get because they value their independence and are a little reluctant to give it up for someone undeserving. Until you show them that you’re for real, they’ll keep a lock on their emotions so as not to risk getting hurt. They might act aloof in the beginning, but the more they get to know someone, their walls slowly start coming down. Capricorns need security and commitment and they won’t open up their hearts for anything less. If you want them to warm up to you, you’re going to have to convince them that you’re in it for the long haul, all the way.
- Sagittarius Nov. 22—Dec. 21) As a fire sign, Sagittarians are full of passion and they tend to do whatever helps them burn the brightest regardless of how it affects other people. It’s like they’re on the lookout for the next hit, so even when they meet someone they really like, they string them along until things inevitably get serious. The most common reason they play hard to get is to keep from settling down. They’re hoping you’ll get tired of the chase and give up so they don’t have to risk falling for you.
- Scorpio (Oct. 23—Nov. 21) These guys live and breathe control. Once they sense their emotions starting to get the better of them when it comes to you, they’ll keep you at arm’s length until they can restore the balance. Until Scorpios feel safe and secure, they’re going to withhold affection. They can go as far as severing ties with someone they care about when they feel things are moving faster than they can control. One of the things that really terrifies this sign is getting their hearts broken, so they’ll try to resist opening themselves up to love.
- Libra (Sept. 23—Oct. 22) Even though this sign is happiest when they’re in a relationship, they still make you work for it. They have a hard time making up their minds, so they’ll lovingly string you along for as long as it takes. It can be hard to guess how they really feel about you because of how unpredictable and erratic their behavior can be. They can spend one week talking to you everywhere, then go radio silent the following week, leaving you to wonder what you did wrong. Libra see themselves as a prize, and they won’t give themselves to you unless they think that you truly deserve their awesomeness.
- Gemini (May 21—June 20) It’s not like Geminis are intentionally making you chase them hard and long, they’re just indecisive when it comes to matters of the heart. If you really want to be with them, you’re going to need to give this sign space and time to sort out their feelings and what they want. Geminis want potential partners to prove their worth before they make up their minds. The dual nature of this sign means that they often have split desires. One part of them might be all in with you, while the other part is second-guessing every move.
