A 61-year-old Christian woman was shocked to discover that the “vintage bottle stopper” she was researching was actually something else entirely. Jane from Indiana was sent photos of the object, which had “gold coating,” by her sister who found it in a friend’s garden after heavy rain. They didn’t know much about what they were looking for, so Jane hit up a glass collectors’ Facebook group and experienced a very rude awakening.
- Jane asked the question innocently. “Got a friend of my sister that came across this solid glass piece. Since she fan’t figure it out she reached out to me and now I’m reaching out to all of you,” she wrote. “Hoping to get an idea of what it is. Only thing coming to mind is either a bottle stopper for a decanter or possibly a chess piece. 4.5 inches tall 1.5 Dia at fat part and 1.75 at base. No significant scratches anywhere, does look to have had a reflective gold coating on it.”
- Members of the group soon let Jane in on a secret. They told her that the “solid glass piece” she’d discovered was actually a 4.5″ glass butt plug, leaving Jane and her sister “cracking up.” While the friend whose garden the plug was found in was horrified at first, she’s since come around to see the humor.
- Everyone on the glass collectors group got a kick out of it. “It’s a stopper… just not for a bottle,” one member wrote. Another joked: “It’s a stopper alright, but think orifice not bottle.”
- Jane is pretty happy that she was unable to identify this right away. “I am thankful I know nothing of this ‘world’ that uses products such as this and quite frankly, I don’t want to know,” Jane said, as per Unilad. “Well, my sister and I are both cracking up! But the fact she picked it up and handled it… I don’t think there’s enough soap to wash away that image.”
