8 Guilty Pleasures That Women Will Never Admit To

Over the years, society has created many strict stereotypes of women – how women are supposed to act, what we are supposed to wear, the kind of careers we are supposed to enter. But times are changing. With significant milestones such as the Women’s Rights Movement and the passing of Title IX, women have come a long way in history. Today, women make up a large majority of the work force and the faces of Politics, Entertainment, and Fortune 500 companies are those of successful, accomplished women

However, there is a reason why there are still two different restroom separating men from women. There are still reasons why women behave completely opposite of men in certain situations. We are genetically wired differently than that of the male species. And for that reason, we women still fall victim to certain guilty pleasures. Here are 8 of them:

  1. Watching (and enjoying) movies or series that are intended for teenage girls. Though we don’t like to admit it, we’ve all somehow gotten hooked on at least one movie, series, or even a book that wasn’t exactly catered to the older female demographic. A little Twilight never hurt anyone, right?
  2. Having a dance party… by ourselves. As Dane Cook once said (whilst making fun of women at clubs), “I just wanna dance!” It’s true. Dancing is fun. We just need it. And if we can’t go out to release our dancing fever, then so help us, we will do it in the comfort of our living room…while blasting Cyndi Lauper.
  3. Indulging in cheat meals when we’re supposed to be “watching our weight”. The correlation between weight and beauty has been an ongoing dilemma throughout the decades. Diets are never fun and we all need our fix for cravings once in a while. Yes, we are aware that bathing suit season is around the corner, but sometimes ice cream is just too good to pass up
  4. Trying on old clothes that we wish we could wear, but they no longer fit us. It’s inevitable to look exactly the same as our college-self. Over the years, our bodies mature and develop and we outgrow some of our favorite outfits. However, that doesn’t mean we’re not tempted to try it on and reminisce every now and then
  5. Being a damsel in distress. This may defy all notions of being equal with men, but sometimes it’s refreshing when a man gets chivalrous for us by helping us carry our luggage or moving the air conditioner out of our window unit. We don’t intend to look weak, and we CAN do it ourselves, but a little help is always appreciated.
  6. Getting hit on even though we’re in a relationship. For all the men reading this, it does NOT mean that we intend to pursue further action when we’re being hit on. Sometimes, it’s just a confidence booster to know that we’re still attractive despite being in a relationship.
  7. Secretly planning our weddings. It’s true that not all women may want marriage. And in no way should society force us to do so. Some women embrace the single life. However, for those of us who do see some distant hope of getting married in the future, we like to be prepared. We have that secret wedding Pinterest board tucked away just for backup
  8. Thinking of baby names way before we are anywhere near bearing children. Similarly, not all women may want children in the future. You may even hate the idea of it. But if there is even the slightest chance, then don’t pretend like you haven’t thought of at least one baby name

Again, these things don’t make us any less strong, intelligent independent, or successful. These guilty pleasures don’t belittle us or make us any less equal than men. Sometimes, these guilty pleasures just happen. And that’s nothing to be ashamed of.
