8 Things Guys Do Before A First Date That Make You Not Even Want To Bother

Thanks to the lovely (read: awful) existence of online dating, you can judge a guy before you’ve even looked him in the eyes. This can save you a ton of time and heartache since some guys make it pretty obvious that they’re not worth your time. Other times, you’ve already locked down a first date but wonder if it’s too late to back out. If guys do any of these things before a date, you probably shouldn’t even bother:

  1. Take forever to make a plan. You’ve been chatting for a while and it’s pretty clear that it’s time to meet IRL or ignore each other for good. So why do some guys take literally eons to make a real plan? It’s not that hard. Just pick a day, a time and a location.
  2. Act like you have a tentative date. There’s this weird thing now where it’s not enough to make a plan, you have to make sure it’s confirmed. Um, what? When did this happen and why is it ruining your dating life? You either have a date or you don’t, so why can’t guys stop wasting your time and forget this “maybe” nonsense?
  3. Ghost the morning of the date. So you haven’t heard from the guy since you made your drinks date. You text to confirm… and get nothing back. What do you do now? Show up and hope he does too, or accept that you’re going to be stood up and move on? If this happens, he’s done you a favor, but it’s enough to make you want to stop dating.
  4. Ask super weird questions. Why do guys ask your height or which neighborhood you live in? Don’t they get how creepy that is? No, you’re not going to share those details… an now you don’t want to meet him anymore.
  5. Text like they have no one else to talk to. Look, you’re interested in meeting him in person and seeing if you click. You’re not interested in texting like it’s going out of style. Seriously, he needs to put down the phone and cool it.
  6. Talk about pre-date nerves. If a guy’s too nervous to meet us, you’d rather he just cancel the date and be done with it. That’s an obvious sign things would never work out between you. You’re way too busy and confident for people who are unsure about themselves or dating.
  7. Reschedule for a weird reason. Sure, life happens, but when a guy gives you an obvious story about why he needs to meet you another night, it doesn’t make you want to date him or anyone else. Someone remind you why you even bother?
  8. Push the time back by an hour or two. There’s no reason for this. You made the plan in advance and you rearranged your crazy schedule to make sure you could meet at the time you agreed on. If a guy can’t (or won’t) make time for you and you haven’t even started dating, it makes sense that you’re pretty much over the entire idea of dating.
