9 Easy Ways To Beat The Monday Blues

The weekend is a glorious time of fun and relaxation, which makes going back to work on Monday that much harder. Your days off go way too fast and before you know it, you’re back at school or the office and feeling miserable. If this happens to you every week, here are a few tips for avoiding a case of the Mondays moving forward:

  1. Plan ahead on Friday. Don’t leave all the work you’ve been dreading for Monday morning. Do as much as possible on Friday and then take note of what’s next. It’s much easier to get right down to work Monday morning if you’re not scrambling to figure out where you left off on Friday.
  2. Turn down for Monday. Get into bed early Sunday night so you can be refreshed for Monday morning. Make Saturday your wild night and enjoy your lazy Sunday, that way the start of the work week won’t hit you too hard. Your brain can’t function without rest, so make sure you get your eight hours.
  3. Forget the snooze. If you keep delaying your wake up time, you’ll only be left tired and groggy. Use a sleeping app to help you wake up during your lightest sleep phase, so you feel rested and relaxed rather than the exhausted from mid-REM rising.
  4. Find your beat. A little music can change everything. Start your morning routine with your favorite jams to wake you up in a good mood. You can’t stay sad when you feel like dancing, so skip the breakup ballads and go for your upbeat energizers.
  5. Don’t be hangry. Monday morning is the worst time you could pick to skip breakfast. You need that extra energy to get you back in the swing of things. Start your metabolism off right with a nutritious and filling breakfast to keep you satisfied. In other words, skip the donuts or bagels and grab something high in healthy fats and protein to get energized and feel full until lunchtime.
  6. Exercise to energize. It’s hard to get back into the routine of things, but don’t allow Monday blues to be an excuse to skip your workout. Exercise will keep your energy bar full so your work day is a breeze. Getting up 30 mins earlier to get in a quick cardio session will give you a boost all day long.
  7. Find your coworker friend. Sometimes a friend is all you need to get you through the day. Take a break and distract yourself by sharing the details of your weekend. That little bit of social interaction can do a lot for your mood.
  8. Save the chores and skip the errands. After a long day, you just want to unwind, so don’t plan all your at-home work for Monday night. Schedule your appointments, errands, and household chores for another night. They won’t feel as exhausting mid-week.
  9. Treat yourself. The first day back to work after a relaxing weekend can be rough, so look forward to drinks with friends, a romantic date, or your favorite meal. Planning something enjoyable is the light at the end of the tunnel.
