911 Operator Wanted For Deliberately Hanging Up On Callers Goes On The Run New Orleans Police Department

A 911 operator has gone on the run after authorities discovered she had been deliberately hanging up on callers who needed emergency services. Precious Stephens, 25, from New Orleans, is said to have disconnected multiple 911 calls without getting any identifying information from the caller and never passed any information on to emergency dispatchers. As a result, she’s facing charges of malfeasance and interfering with an emergency communication.

  1. Stephens’ activities were reported to the New Orleans Police Department. A random set of calls she’d taken during her shifts between August 20 and August 21 was investigated after the connection problems were discovered, which led the Orleans Paris Communications District to uncover her cruel activities, NOLA.com reports.
  2. She went on the run after catching wind of the charges. As of September 2, Stephens was unable to be located and is believed to be on the run after she disappeared from the local area. While she was immediately dismissed from her post upon discovery of her crimes, the NOPD is still looking for her.
  3. The communications district says they’ll continue to work with police. “(The district) has and will continue to cooperate with the … investigation into this matter and is dedicated to providing any and all assistance to aid in (the) efforts,” a statement from the communications district read. The investigation is continuing, as is the search for Stephens.
