99-Year-Old Man Divorcing Wife Of 77 Years Over Affair She Had 60 Years Ago

A 99-year-old Italian man has reportedly decided to divorce his wife of nearly eight decades over an affair she had more than 60 years ago. The unnamed man is said to have filed papers to divorce his 96-year-old spouse after finding letters from the affair partner in the 1950s, the Telegraph reports.

The man, referred to as Antonio C, found the letters just before Christmas.

Court documents claim he came across the letters in an old chest of drawers a few days before the holiday. He confronted his wife, Rosa C, right away.

His wife admitted the affair.

While she confessed to being unfaithful 77 years ago, she also insisted it was ancient history and tried to convince her husband to continue the marriage. Given that they hd five kids, 12 grandkids, and even a great-grandchild together, you would think they might put it behind them.

Antonio pushed forward with the divorce anyway.

Antonio, who’s originally from Sardinia, first met Rosa back in the 1930s while serving in the Italian Carabinieri in Naples. They’ve been together ever since, but their long history together wasn’t enough to save the marriage. Many local press outlets claimed the couple’s “southern blood” was at the core of the breakup.

The couple counts as the oldest divorcees in the world.

They took the title from British couple Bertie and Jessie Wood, who divorced at 98 in 2009 after being together for 36 years, according to ABC News.
