9-Year-Old Boy Rats Mom Out For Drunk Driving After She Claims She’s Sober: “Mom, You Can’t Lie To The Police” Indian River County Jail

A Florida mom was ratted out by her own son after she told officers she hadn’t been drinking when she was pulled over for driving recklessly. According to investigators, 49-year-old teacher Kristin Wiley’s 9-year-old son shouted from the back set: “Mom, you can’t lie to the police. You did drink.” Ouch!

  1. Wiley nearly struck a police car. She was driving around Vero Beach at roughly 2 a.m. and narrowly avoided colliding with a police car. The patrol car had pulled over to deal with a separate incident and had its lights flashing at the time.
  2. Her son was “in the beackseat and curled up” when officers approached her vehicle. Deputies walked over to Wiley’s 2018 Ford and saw the 9-year-old, who wasn’t in a seatbelt. Wiley’s eyes were noted to be “watery and red in color” and there was a “strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emitting off her person and her breath.”
  3. Wiley insisted that she hadn’t been drinking. In fact, she flat-out denied it when she was asked. That’s when officers say her son piped up from the backseat to dispute her version of events. He even went on to tell police that Wiley had been drinking at a party and that he’d been telling her to slow down because he “was very scared when Kristen was operating the vehicle.”
  4. Eventually, she copped to having some alcohol. She later told police she had “two vodka mixed drinks at a party” but refused to perform field sobriety tests. She did, however, agree to a breathalyzer, which measured her blood alcohol content at nearly three times the legal level.
  5. Wiley was arrested and booked into Indian River County jail in lieu of $2500 bond. She was charged with a misedemeanor DUI as well as felony child abuse for driving drunk with her son in the car. In addition, she was charged for resisting police by allegedly snatching her hands away when an officer tried to handcuff her.
