If you grew up in the ’90s, chances are you’ve seen an episode or two of Beavis and Butt-Head. I remember watching in secret (I wasn’t “allowed” to watch MTV, though I did often) and loving it because it made me laugh with its ridiculousness and stupidity. And while the final episode aired all the way back in 2011, it’s officially happening: Beavis and Butt-Head is getting a reboot.
- The show won’t be coming back to MTV. Beavis and Butt-Head will instead live on Comedy Central, which is working with the show’s creator Mike Judge to bring it back and introduce it to a whole new audience. Judge will be producing, writing, and voicing the show, which is pretty awesome.
- We’re not just getting a few new episodes. Frankly, I think fans would take even a one-off special, but Comedy Central is going all in on the Beavis and Butt-Head reboot, giving it two new seasons, a couple spinoffs, and even a few specials too.
- Everyone is pretty thrilled to be getting the show back. According to ComicBook, Chris McCarthy, president of ViacomCBS’s entertainment and youth group, said in a statement, “We are thrilled to be working with Mike Judge and the great team at 3 Arts again as we double down on adult animation at Comedy Central. Beavis and Butt-Head were a defining voice of a generation, and we can’t wait to watch as they navigate the treacherous waters of a world light-years from their own.”
- It’s about time for the show to come back. Things are pretty serious in 2020 and what we need right now is a little levity. As Mike Judge himself said, “It seemed like the time was right to get stupid again.” Frankly, I couldn’t agree more. What’s wrong with a little stupidity? The good kind, of course!
