ABBA Is Reuniting To Release 5 New Songs Next Year

ABBA is one of those groups that seems to defy genre, generation, nationality, and every other barrier. Pretty much everyone can sing at least one ABBA song, and with the popularity of films like Mamma Mia, their music has been introduced to even more people around the world. Luckily, the Swedish supergroup is planning a reunion and the release of new music. Sadly, it’ll have to wait until 2021.

  1. The ABBA reunion was originally supposed to happen this year. Of course, the corinavirus pandemic pumped the breaks on that plan, and band member Bjorn Ulveaus recently confirmed that the group now won’t be getting back together until 2021 because of it. Good things come to those who wait, I suppose!
  2. There are five new ABBA songs coming our way. The songs are being released to coincide with an upcoming hologram tour. That’s right, the group themselves isn’t going on tour, but holographic versions of them will be to perform their greatest hits to captive audiences. No doubt the new songs will fit right in with the setlist.
  3. Bjorn promises the songs will see the light of day next year. While it’s still uncertain whether we’ll even have a vaccine by next year so that we can begin indoor concerts again, Bjorn told journalist Geoff Lloyd that the group feels confident that new ABBA songs will be in fans’ hands sometime in 2021 come hell or high water. “I got to spend an hour with Bjorn Ulveaus from ABBA via Zoom. They’ve recorded five new songs,” Lloyd said on his podcast, Reasons to Be Cheerful. They should have been out at the end of last year. They’re going to these holograms out on tour. Because of technical difficulties and the pandemic, it’s delayed things. But he promised me that the new ABBA music will be out in 2021.”
  4. Who knows? Maybe this can even spark further Mamma Mia movies. We already know that they’re beginning work on a third Mamma Mia film, but with five new songs, we might even get a fourth one. I guess we’ll have to keep our fingers crossed and simply wait and see.
