Given the fact that Aldi is absolutely killing it when it comes to delicious alcoholic drinks — watermelon wine, anyone? Mango Moscato? — it makes sense that we would miss out on some products from time to time, especially if we’re not super regular drinkers. But how is it that Aldi’s chocolate red wine has been on store shelves for years and I’m only just now finding out about it?!
- It’s made by The Chocolate Cellar. The brand describes their chocolate red wine blend as “dark fruit flavors and decadent dark chocolate” and has even been one of Aldi’s Weekly Specials a few times over the past couple of years. However, I’m just discovering it and I feel like my whole life leading up to now has been a lie.
- It goes super well with your favorite dessert foods. While you’re at Aldi, swing by the bakery aisle and pick up some pastries, cookies, cakes, or other dessert foods to enjoy with your chocolate wine. The chocolate depth of the wine will pair perfectly with the sugary sweetness of the snacks to create basically the best evening (or afternoon! I’m not here to judge) you’ve had in a long time.
- Don’t worry, it’s not TOO sweet. According to one reviewer, while Aldi’s chocolate wine does have a perceptible chocolate flavor and a smooth finish, it’s not overly sweet like you’d expect from a dessert wine. That may be a relief for anyone who doesn’t like booze that’s too sugary.
- You don’t have to wait until Valentine’s Day to enjoy this bad boy. While the February holiday is one of the biggest selling periods for chocolate wine, there’s no reason to wait until 2021 to get your fix. Check out the booze aisle of your local Aldi and see if you can pick up a bottle now. Trust me, it’s just as delicious in summer.
