Amber Heard Reiterates Johnny Depp Abuse Claim: ‘He Lied’

Despite losing Johnny Depp’s defamation lawsuit against her earlier this month, Amber Heard is not backing down when it comes to her claims of abuse against her ex-husband. In an interview with NBC News, Heard said she would “stand by every word of her testimony… until the day she dies.”

  1. Heard branded Depp a “liar” during the interview. In the sit-down with the Today show’s Savannah Guthrie, Heard repeated her claims that she’d been physically abused by Depp throughout their marriage and said she wouldn’t change her story despite the “unfair” court verdict.
  2. She described him as a “fantastic actor.” Questioned why the jury believed Depp and thought that Heard was lying, the 36-year-old responded: “Says the lawyer for the man who convinced the world he had scissors for fingers. I’m the performer? I had listened to weeks of testimony insinuating, or saying quite directly, that I’m a terrible actress. So I’m a bit confused how I could be both.”
  3. Guthrie asked Heard outright whether she lied about ever being hit by Depp. Unsurprisingly, Heard reiterated the claims she’s been making for years. “To my dying day, I will stand by every word of my testimony.”
  4. Heard also insisted while she did hit Depp, she never instigated the physical altercations. During the interview, Guthrie brought up the audio clips in which Heard admitted to striking Depp. “I never had to instigate it, I responded to it,” she said. “When you’re living in violence and it becomes normal – as I testified to – you have to adapt.”
  5. She admitted that she “has so much regret” over the things she did during the marriage. She told Guthrie that she behaved in “horrible, almost unrecognizable to herself ways” and that she “was pushed to the extent where she didn’t know the difference between right and wrong.” She added: “I have so much regret. I freely and hopefully and voluntarily talked about what I did. I talked about the horrible language. I talked about being pushed to the extent where I didn’t even know the difference between right and wrong. I will always continue to feel like I was a part of this. Like I was the other half of this relationship, because I was.”
  6. Heard added that her relationship with Depp wasn’t all bad. Despite what happened between them, she says there were good times too. “‘It was ugly. And could be very beautiful. It was very, very toxic. We made a lot of mistakes. But I’ve always told the truth.”
