Amber Heard Quits Acting And Moves To Madrid With Her Daughter

Nearly a year after losing her defamation case against ex-husband Johnny Depp, Amber Heard has reportedly decided to quit acting, leave Hollywood behind, and move to Madrid, Spain, with her daughter Oonagh. The 37-year-old is said to be fluent in Spanish and feels happy in the city with the nearly 2-year-old, a friend of the star told The Daily Mail.

It’s a welcome change for Heard, who has faced relentless abuse and negative press since her split from Depp. She has largely shunned social media and stayed out of the public eye since mid-2022, and it would seem her move to Europe allows her more anonymity and the chance to live a more normal life with her child.

And while Heard has no movies or TV projects currently in the pipeline, that doesn’t mean her acting career is over for good. It’s just for now, and she’ll likely make a return in the future.

“She’s bilingual in Spanish and is happy there, raising her daughter away from all the noise,” the insider said. “I don’t think she is in any hurry to return to work or to Hollywood, but she will probably come back when the time is right, for the right project.”

Amber Heard and her daughter have reportedly been living in Madrid for months now, though her reps have not publicly confirmed the move. That’s likely a calculated decision, as the public not knowing where she is has given her some much-needed privacy and kept her daughter out of the public eye, as well.

Heard’s last public statement came in December 2022, when she announced on Instagram that she’d decided to drop her appeal and settle her defamation case with Depp in order to move on with her life and put this traumatizing chapter behind her. She stood by her decision to speak out about the abuse she experienced at Depp’s hand, insisting that “this is not an act of concession” and that “there are no restrictions or gags in respect to my voice moving forward.”
