Ankle Scarves Are The Must-Have Cold-Weather Accessories You Never Knew Existed

Winter is well and truly here, and it’s likely to be several more months before it starts warming up again. If you consider yourself a bit of a trendsetter (or simply a hipster), you probably purposely wear highwater jeans/pants that show off your ankles. That’s a recipe for literal cold feet! That’s why you need ankle scarves to keep you warm.

  1. Yes, they’re a thing. Well, at least according to Italian news site Lercio, which claims that hipsters across the country are keeping their fashion throughout the winter but protecting their ankles with little scarves. If you’re in Italy, can you confirm this is a thing?
  2. Your ankles can indeed get cold. We wear gloves and scarves around our necks and hats to keep our other body parts warm, so why would we let our ankles freeze? One person interviewed by Lercio claims they had chilblains twice and chose to begin using ankle scarves rather than wear longer pants, which he insists are only for grandparents and uncles. So there you have it.
  3. Admittedly, I’ve never seen these things for sale. The same bedroom DJ/chilblains sufferer claims there are plenty of stores online selling ankle scarves now that the ankle scarf scene has exploded, but I’m a little skeptical given that I can only find a couple random ones on Etsy. That being said, it could be because the trend is bigger in the Middle East, which also seems weird since I (perhaps ignorantly) always assumed the weather was too warm there to need ankle socks. I stand corrected!
  4. I’m not sure if I’d ever wear them, though. Even if I had some ankle scarves handy, I think I’d just wear longer pants or longer socks before I resorted to yet another accessory. But hey, what do I know about fashion? I’m just not hip enough, I suppose.
