Aquarius Compatibility: Romantic Matches Ranked From Best To Worst

Those born under the Aquarius zodiac sign (January 20 – February 18) are creative, intelligent, and powerful. These signs are positive and have big dreams, but they prefer to have fun and see where life takes them than plan ahead. They’re best suited to signs who will take huge leaps of faith with them and stimulate their intellect and imagination. Here’s which signs they’re compatible with, and those that will be challenging to form relationships with.

  1. Gemini (May 21 – June 20) Gemini and Aquarius are a match made in heaven. These two air signs have a bunch of similarities which make them perfect partners. They are both super-intelligent and curious about the world. They both have a craving for adventure and desire many of the same things from life. And being air signs, they tend to prefer to float around than sit still. Both signs can risk getting bored in a relationship, but that risk is greatly reduced when they’re paired with each other. This is one relationship that will rarely land itself in a rut!
  2. Scorpio (October 23 – November 21) On the surface, Scorpio and Aquarius look extremely different. And in some ways, they are. They each have a unique way of looking at a relationship. While Scorpio likes to keep their partner close, Aquarius values their independence and sees a relationship as a complement to their life, not the full picture. However, when these two signs get together, they often form a deep bond that lasts a long time. Their differences are significant, but they bring balance to one another and teach each other new things. Often, they feel completely fulfilled with one another.
  3. Leo (July 23 – August 22) A fire sign, Leo is a great match for Aquarius. These signs are both open-minded, and will support each other’s crazy dreams. At times, Leo may struggle with the fact that Aquarius is not overly affectionate by nature. But they’ll typically prefer to have a spontaneous adventurous partner rather than a safe one who constantly declares their love. The relationship between Leo and Aquarius is often very exciting and full of amazing possibilities as these signs both have a zest for life.
  4. Libra (September 23 – October 22) Aquarius is typically compatible with the other air signs. After meeting a Libra they like, Aquarius tends to fall in love quickly. However, if they don’t put effort into sustaining their bond, this relationship can also end quickly too. As long as they both prioritize their relationship and don’t forget about it once the honeymoon stage passes, Libra an Aquarius have a good shot at lasting. Plus, they make great friends thanks to their similar personalities, which usually paves the way for a wonderful relationship.
  5. Sagittarius (November 22 – December 21) Sagittarius shares the passion for life that Aquarius has. Often, these two signs will have similar ideas about what makes a happy life, so they’re usually headed in the same direction. They’re both also deep thinkers and will often have deep and fulfilling conversations where they can share things that they can’t tell anyone else. The temper on Sagittarius can sometimes be a deal-breaker for Aquarius, though. Likewise, Sagittarius might become annoyed with Aquarius’ people-pleasing. But if they can work past each other’s flaws, there could be something special between them.
  6. Virgo (August 23 – September 22) The relationship between Virgo and Aquarius is always interesting. These two aren’t the most compatible signs in the zodiac, but they’re also not the worst match. The biggest killer here is that free-spirited Aquarius can be too much for down-to-earth Virgo. But it’s often the case that the differences between these two signs actually draw them to one another.
  7. Pisces (February 19 – March 20) Unlike Virgo, Pisces is as free-spirited as Aquarius. Both signs have big dreams and love to get lost in them. However, when they are together, their dreams rarely come to fruition. While a more ambitious sign will encourage Aquarius to pursue their biggest goals, Pisces isn’t a pusher. Rather, this sign often needs to be pushed to take action. When together, they’ll likely stay dreamers forever. Also, Pisces may find Aquarius to be too distant and unemotional.
  8. Aries (March 21 – April 19) Aries and Aquarius are both masculine signs, so this relationship has a lot of energy. While that energy can be good, most often these two just argue. When they get together, there’s typically a lot of debating and discussion. With Aries’ fiery stubborn nature and Aquarius’ condescending way, these two can often bring out the worst in each other. But there are always exceptions!
  9. Capricorn (December 22 – January 19) Although Capricorn is another independent sign, they are pretty much different from Aquarius in every other way. And while some signs have differences that bring balance to the relationship, the differences between Capricorn and Aquarius tend to make these signs incompatible. Capricorn thinks the glass is half-empty while Aquarius sees it as half-full. Aquarius is spontaneous while Capricorn is careful. But if they do work out, Capricorn tends to push Aquarius toward achieving their dreams.
  10. Taurus (April 20 – May 20) Like Capricorn, Taurus is an earth sign. Earth and air can be compatible, but most often, their differences become too much. The earth signs crave stability and routine while the air signs want anything but. When these two signs come together, they tend to butt heads a lot. Taurus is resistant to change (and changing their mind), while Aquarius is the most progressive sign in the zodiac.
  11. Cancer (June 21 – July 22) Cancer and Aquarius rarely make a good match (although anything is possible!). Ultimately, Cancer is too emotional and too sensitive for someone like Aquarius, who can be distant, cold, and harsh. Cancer tends to retreat until they feel safe, but Aquarius doesn’t have the patience to coax Cancer out of their shell. While Aquarius needs someone who can go with the flow and fall madly in love without asking questions, Cancer needs someone who feels safe.
