Dating apps are the best and worst thing to have happened to our generation. On the one hand, you have an easy way to meet people and go on dates if you’re into that; on the other hand, you’re becoming a slave to your iPhone. There’s nothing wrong with using Tinder and the like to look for a date, but if you can relate to any of the following, you may need to stop swiping and hit up some dating app rehab.

  1. You have five or more apps on your phone. In case you’re wondering, yes, that’s definitely too many. You’re just going to feel totally overwhelmed. Plus, not every app is created equal. Some don’t have a ton of people in your city and you’ll really be wasting your time.
  2. You try every new app ASAP. You know, the app your mom read a news story about? The one that’s supposed to be the new Tinder? Newsflash: it probably won’t be, and you don’t need it even if it is.
  3. You keep seeing the same guys. Matching with the same guys over and over again on Tinder? Swipe right and then realize you messaged this dude on OkCupid? It’s official, you’re on way too many dating apps and are using them way too often.
  4. You’re on 24/7. There’s nothing wrong with logging on and seeing who’s out there — that’s what you want to be doing if you’re interested in actually going on dates. But if you spend every moment of every day on your apps, you’re not living your life and you’re totally defeating the purpose.
  5. You message every single guy you match with. Even if you match with someone, that doesn’t mean you should talk to them. If you’ve ever been surprised by how lackluster your convos are, then you already know this. You shouldn’t be so addicted to your apps that you literally have no filter.
  6. You get ignored a lot. This is a pretty common side effect of online dating, but if this is happening way too often these days, then sorry to say, but you’re acting a bit desperate. Take a step back and remember that love doesn’t care about time. Take a few days off and then get back on.
  7. You meet every guy you chat with. There’s being picky and then there’s just being way too lenient. Not every convo you have is going to be amazing and deserving of an in-person meeting. You definitely should choose your dates carefully so you don’t waste your own time. What’s the rush?
  8. Your friends think you only have bad dates. Because, well, you do. It’s just a fact that if you go on a ton of dates, they’re mostly going to suck because you won’t like everyone (or most people, to be honest). That’s definitely a sign that you’re online dating a bit too much.
  9. You pressure yourself. You should never feel like you’re a total loser just because you don’t have a boyfriend right now, but if you’re forcing yourself to use your apps all the time, that’s going to backfire in the long-term.
  10. You’re tired of dating. Whenever you start feeling like it’s time to give up on the search, that definitely means you’re going on too many dating app dates. So chill out, put down your phone, and try to live your life. Your person will come along, they just might not be hiding in your iPhone.
