Artist Holds Funerals For Overused Sex Dolls To Help Grieving Owners

A Japanese artist has begun holding funerals for sex dolls that have been overused by their owners to help with grief. Leiya Arata founded the Love Doll Funeral services company in Osaka and insists that there’s a “real need” for the company as many people “love them [sex dolls] as if they were human members of their family.”

  1. The funeral services aren’t cheap. Despite the fact that it’s not a human being that’s being laid to rest, the funerals are complete with caskets, flower arrangements, burial attire, and more. That also means that the services aren’t cheap, coming in at around $800 for the opportunity for owners to lay their dolls to rest.
  2. Arata insists she’s the best of the best. While there are other companies in Japan offering funeral services for sex dolls, Arata says that none of them “offers an appropriate ceremony better than her.” No detail is left out, from candles and undertakers to even having other dolls in the “audience” to mourn the dead alongside the owner. The services are so realistic that police are said to have mistaken the dolls for actual dead bodies in the past, though how true that is, who can say?
  3. Love Doll Funeral was created out of necessity. As Arata explains, even though the dolls are plastic and silicone, the owners’ feelings for them are real and they want to give the dolls a proper send-off. “Many owners do not want them to be shredded as garbage,” she explained, adding that just throwing them in a dumpster could risk exposing the owners.
  4. That’s not the only service Love Doll Funeral offers. They also help the living in other ways, like by dressing people as dead bodies for photoshoots and even allowing men to dress up as female dolls to stage fake funerals. Women are also welcome to take part in the company’s offerings, and many find it extremely helpful. Hey, to each their own!
