Thanks to the pandemic over the past year, I feel like we’ve all regressed into our laziest, most unproductive selves and we value comfort and relaxation more than, well, pretty much everything. (If you’ve been uber productive this year and are at the top of your game, this post isn’t for you.) I can’t tell you the last time I’ve worn jeans and I know I’m not alone – the loungewear and sleepwear industry soared nearly $20 billion last year alone. What better time could there be than for a bean bag onesie?

- Can you think of two more perfect symbols of comfort? Onesies are the ultimate chillaxed apparel, and bean bags basically just beg you to plop down and do absolutely nothing on them. Putting the two into one – as in a onesie with a bean bag sewn right into the butt – just seems like a perfect combo. The people at ThinkGeek, who came up with the product, must be geniuses!
- Sadly, it’s not real. Before we go any further, we have to clarify here that ThinkGeek listed the bean bag onesie on its site as an April Fools’ Day joke in 2019. The $89.99 product seemed legit at first, but when people tried to add the product to their cart, they were notified that it was all one big joke. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t have been laughing – I would have been heartbroken. How could this not be real?!
- To be fair, it was pretty convincing. ThinkGeek did put up a proper item page for their bean bag onesie, saying it would be useful for if you were waiting in line somewhere and wanted to sit down. “Waiting in line sucks. And if you’re into geeky fandoms, chances are that one day you’ll be forced to wait in line for a meet-and-greet, midnight premiere, or con,” the product description read. “We’ve all envied that one person who brings a chair, but sometimes carrying around a fold-up chair is just too much (especially if you’ve managed to grab some awesome limited-edition swag). Why hasn’t someone fixed this yet? Oh wait. We have. We’ve given the most comfortable clothing option a huge upgrade… or trunkgrade. Introducing the new ThinkGeek exclusive Bean Bag Onesie. Now you can sit wherever you want. It solves all of life’s most uncomfortable dilemmas.” I mean, come on – that’s perfection!
- So many people want this thing made and sold ASAP. After discovering that this dream product was all one big joke, people on social media demanded it be made for real and honestly, I don’t blame them. Sadly, it never did come to pass so it seems we’ll just have to keep wearing regular ol’ onesies and plopping down on regular ol’ bean bags. Rude!
