I think I speak for us all when I say I’ve eaten more pints of Ben & Jerry’s in the past year since COVID-19 hit than I have probably in the entire rest of my life combined. That’s probably not a great thing for my waistline, but my mental health sure is better for it. I was going to try and tone it down in 2021 a bit, but now that Ben & Jerry’s has 7 new flavors topped with chocolate ganache, I’m starting to rethink that strategy, because what is life without ice cream anyway?
- Ben & Jerry’s Topped is every chocolate lover’s dream. What’s great is that Ben & Jerry’s hasn’t changed their approach to ice cream flavors chock full of delicious mix-ins. Instead, they’ve just thought, “You know what would make this ridiculously delicious treat that much better? Chocolate, obviously!” so they threw a thick layer of chocolate ganache on top. Great idea or amazing idea? You decide.
- The flavors combos here are insane. With seven new flavors to choose from, I might literally never stop eating this stuff. The one that sounds the best to me (though they all sound amazing) has to be Tiramisu, which is mascarpone ice cream with fudge swirls, shortbread pieces topped with espresso fudge and a chocolate ganache. How incredible does that sound? That being said, Salted Caramel Brownie is likely going to be just as yummy. That one consists of vanilla ice cream with salted caramel swirls, fudge brownies, and a caramel cup and chocolate ganache top.
- There’s something for everyone in this collection. Ben & Jerry’s appreciates that we’re all different people with all different tastes, so if those flavors don’t stand out to you, how about Whiskey Biz? That one is full of brown butter bourbon ice cream with blonde brownies, whiskey caramel swirls, and a white chocolate ganache with white fudge chunks on top. Then there’s PB Over The Top, which has chocolate ice cream with peanut butter swirls, peanut butter cups, and a mini peanut butter cup and chocolate ganache topping. Ugh, so good.
- Nope, not done yet. I said seven new flavors, didn’t I? Next up on the roster is Chocolate Caramel Cookie Dough, full of chocolate ice cream with caramel swirls, chocolate chip cookie dough, and a chocolate ganache with caramel cups on top. Then we’ve got Strawberry Topped Tart: sweet cream ice cream with strawberry swirls, pie crust pieces, and a white chocolate ganache top with candy sprinkles. Ugh, so good. Finally, there’s Thick Mint, which is mint ice cream with chocolate cookie swirls, mint chocolate cookie balls, and a chocolate ganache topping with chocolate cookies. I literally don’t know where to start.
- Ben & Jerry’s was definitely trying to be extra here. As Innovation Guru Dena Wimette explained in a press release: “We wanted to dial up the indulgence level with this unique line of flavors, which entirely challenges HOW you eat this ice cream. We started with sundaes and all the things you add to sundaes to make them great as our inspiration. You could say we ended up going over the Topped.” You could definitely say that, and I’m pretty thrilled about it.
