When you think of the best man stepping in to ruin a wedding, it’s usually something you imagine seeing in a movie. However, it actually happened to Desiree White, 32, who actually did end up divorcing her husband to marry the man who confessed his undying love for Desiree while toasting the couple at their reception. The story is messy and wild, and that’s why it’s so amazing!

- The ceremony took place back in 2010. During his speech, best man Bryant stood up and basically said exactly how he felt about Desiree. “He said, ‘I remember the first moment I saw Desiree, I loved her. I fell in love with her. I knew she had to be mine. I thought she was the most beautiful person I’ve ever seen in my life,'” White told Kennedy News and Media (via NY Post). “He said, ‘She’s the best person I’ve ever met. I’ve never met anyone like her. Then I found out she already had a boyfriend and I thought I needed to find out a way to get her, but then I met [White’s ex-husband] and we became friends.”
- Both White and her new husband were shocked. They couldn’t believe what they were hearing, especially since there was no prior indication of Bryant’s feelings. “[Bryant] then just said, ‘Love you both — congratulations.’ It ended there,” White recalled. She added that her ears “turned red” after the speech and while everyone in the room was “kind of laughing,” things got awkward pretty quickly.
- White and Bryant had known each other since high school. They were in the same class and became friends but never dated since she had a boyfriend at the time. That boyfriend ended up being the man White eventually married, and the trio was incredibly close. “Bryant and my ex-husband became best friends and, because they were guys, they did a lot together. They did everything together,” White said.
- There was some indication of a bit of weirdness on White’s wedding day. She remembers walking into the living room when she had her hair done and her wedding dress on and seeing the look on Bryant’s face. “I said, ‘Hey, what’s up?’ He said I looked beautiful. I’d never had a moment of him looking at me like that.”
- Bryant always wondered why White never gave him a chance. After the awkward speech, White shared a dance with Bryant, at which point he asked why she’d never given him a chance. “I would have always taken care of you,” he said. However, he soon clammed up and it was clear he felt bad about potentially ruining her wedding day.
- Less than a year later, White’s marriage began to fail. Her husband developed “a totally different lifestyle” and they eventually divorced. Soon after, things started to change between White and Bryant as well. “When [my ex and I] broke up and divorced, I went through a depression and was really secluded myself. I just didn’t want to make an effort for anything,” she said, noting that Bryant showered her with emotional support during the separation. “He’d ask me to eat with him or hang out and watch a show. He was trying to be there for me,” White said.
- Things between White and Bryant felt really natural. When they did eventually kiss, White was shocked at how good it felt. “Bryant and I just kissed one day when we were hanging out,” she revealed. “It was out of nowhere. When he kissed me, I didn’t stop it, then I kissed him back,” she added. “I was shocked that it was a good kiss. It felt good and natural.”
- White and Bryant have been married since 2012. They have four sons and are incredibly happy together. “We love being parents. Twenty-year-old Desiree wouldn’t think she could be a mom of four kids,” White admitted. “She couldn’t imagine this is what my life would be like now.”
