Now more than ever, people are starting to understand the joys of baking. There’s no better feeling (or taste) than getting into the kitchen and, using a carefully measured set of ingredients and instructions, creating something beautiful and delicious. Case in point? These blooming flower cakes that bring the beauty of springtime to dessert and I’m loving it.
- It takes so much talent to make cakes this beautiful. It takes talent to create cakes with anything more than a basic design on them, but cakes with flowers that look like they’re alive and blooming? That’s a whole different ball game and I have so much respect for the bakers who make them.
- This is pure art! Instagram is a great place to see some of the most gifted bakers and cake artists displaying their work. Indonesian cake shop Iven Oven has a feed chock full of the most incredible blooming flower cakes (among other incredible designs) and the #flowercake hashtag also has so many impressive results. Be prepared because you’re going to lose hours scrolling through these.
- They almost look too beautiful to eat! The time and effort that goes into creating blooming flower cakes is mind-blowing to think about, which is why even though the flowers themselves look deliciously sugary and scrumptious, I almost can’t imagine eating them. How could I destroy a work of art? It almost feels criminal. I’m not saying I wouldn’t eat these, just that I’d be a little hesitant. You know.
- I’d love to learn how to make one of these. I’m a pretty solid baker and I can be very detail-oriented, but sadly, I don’t think this is the type of thing you can just walk in the kitchen and make one day. It not only takes special equipment (pastry bags with shaped tips, etc.) but also special techniques and a very steady hand. A girl can dream!
