These High Fashion Sandals Are Like Wearing Ramen Noodles On Your Feet

I don’t pretend to be particularly high fashion, but while I can’t get away with wearing haute couture (who can?), I do feel like I have pretty decent taste. With that in mind, I could never in good conscious wear these Bottega Veneta’s sandals because they basically look like ramen noodles for your feet.

  1. They’re part of the designer’s new collection. Bottega Veneta’s Lido sandal is pretty much a staple of every Fashion Week, according to W Mag. However, it’s the newest incarnation, which was shown as part of the designer’s pre-fall 2020 collection, that have garnered a whole new level of attention, and probably not for the reasons the brand would hope.
  2. The color palette doesn’t help. The shoes come in light tan and yellow, so there’s literally no way you can look at the open-toed mules and not think, “Damn, I could really go for some ramen right now.” The shrimp flavor is probably my favorite. To really up the unhealthy factor, I used to throw out all of the noodle cooking water, add the MSG-laden powder and mix it with melted butter. It’s shockingly delicious, trust me. But I digress…
  3. I doubt it was intentional. While you might assume that creating ramen noodle sandals was intentional on the brand’s behalf, given the way Bottega Veneta’s creative director Daniel Lee spoke about the brand in 2018, I doubt that’s the case. “Bottega is a brand that talks about sophisticated elegance. It’s almost about being quiet,” the designer explained to Vogue. “A silence in all the noise. A kind of stillness.” I don’t hear silence — I hear me slurping a bowl of Nissin instant noodles, but OK.
  4. Who’s going to pay all that money to wear ramen on their feet? While the exact price of these sandals hasn’t been released, given that Lido sandals from the brand run at about $1,270, I imagine these will be the same when they finally hit stores. You’re telling me I’m paying nearly $1,300 for a pair of shoes when I could create the same look for 50 cents? Nah, I’m good.
