If you’re having a bad day, I’m about to cheer you up bigtime: Baby Yoda is coming to Build-A-Bear. The custom toy store, which obliterates the wallets of parents everywhere with its adorable yet eye-wateringly expensive stuffed animals, is keen to cash in on the popularity of the Mandalorian character and is pleased to be bringing fans more of what they want.
- People really love Baby Yoda. Build-A-Bear’s announcement came during a presentation on Tuesday at the ICR Conference in Orlando, Florida, where CEO Sharon Price John pointed out just how popular Baby Yoda truly is. “I’m excited to share we will be one of the first companies to provide the digital and internet phenomenon who is trending higher than all the presidential candidates combined,” she said according to Business Insider.
- The partnership has been a long time coming. Rather than cashing in late, Build-A-Bear and Disney/LucasFilm have been in talks since The Mandalorian began, with John saying, “It’s great, again, to be in business with best-in-class partners. We started this process almost with the first episode.” Smart move!
- This isn’t just for kids. While the primary function of Build-A-Bear workshops is to make kids want to buy the toys, the higher-ups in the company have noticed the trend of adults shopping online for stuffed toys and other items tied to their favorite shows and movies. In other words, us big kids will end up buying these things too.
- It will be available in the next couple of months. While no specific release date has been announced, John did hold up one of the Baby Yoda stuffed toys and said that Build-A-Bear will begin selling the item over the next few months, so you’ll have to keep your eyes peeled at your local workshop, because no doubt these will sell out quickly. There’s been no confirmation of what the price will be either, but given how pricy some of their other toys can be, you might want to save your pennies.
