Caitlyn Jenner Slammed For Saying Transgender Girls Should Be Banned From Female Sports

Caitlyn Jenner is facing backlash yet again for her controversial and downright confounding opinions on LGBTQ+ issues. The former athlete and reality star, who recently revealed her intention to run for governor of California, has said that she doesn’t believe transgender girls should be allowed to participate in female sports as it’s “a matter of fairness.” This despite the fact that Caitlyn Jenner is both transgender and a former athlete herself.

  1. Being a transgender youth is getting harder, not easier. A number of states have been passing discriminatory legislation to keep trans girls and women out of female sports in schools and universities. These policies have been criticized heavily by politicians, activists, and allies of the community for their damaging effects on trans youth, who are already facing an incredibly tough time.
  2. Caitlyn Jenner doesn’t have a great track record when it comes to the LGBTQ+ community. Lest we forget that Caitlyn is a conservative Republican who has voiced support for Donald Trump and whose life is so far removed from that of the majority of the LGBTQ+ community that she has no idea what it’s actually like to be a queer or trans person in the real world. While it would have been nice if she’d learned a bit more about the community of which she’s now a part and began to empathize with and support them, that’s clearly not happening.
  3. Her comments were made off the cuff to TMZ. The impromptu interview took place when a TMZ reporter approached Caitlyn as she left a Starbucks in Los Angeles on Saturday and asked her what she thought of the legislation banning trans girls from female sports around the country. “This is a question of fairness. That’s why I oppose biological boys who are trans competing in girls’ sports in school. It just isn’t fair. And we have to protect girls’ sports in our schools,” she responded. Yikes.
  4. The reporter actually called her out on it. Following up on Caitlyn’s comments, the reporter asked if these policies are akin to “delegitimizing [transgender girls’] identity,” which is when Caitlyn cut the conversation dead and went on her way. I suppose when you’re challenged on your crappy views, the best way to get out of it is just to shut it down.
  5. Needless to say, people aren’t happy. Many people took to social media to express their disgust and disappointment in Jenner, accusing her of turning her back on a community that rallied around her after she came out as trans. However, she’s sticking to her guns and later said that she’s sticking to her ignorant views and is “firm where I stand” on that. Wow.
