Cheating Wife Convinced Man She Was Having An Affair With To Kill Her Husband

A 32-year-old Texas woman has been sentenced to life in prison for the death of her husband after she convinced one of the men she was having an affair with to kill him. Chacey Poynter had been married to Robert Poynter, 12 years her senior, since 2009. However, their marriage had serious problems and Chacey was serially unfaithful. Sadly, she felt the only way out of her marriage was to have Robert murdered and now she is paying the price.

  1. Robert Poynter was a veteran firefighter. In fact, many considered him a hero, having spent 19 years bravely putting out blazes and saving lives. He became Captain of his crew at the University Park firehouse near Dallas and even helped find survivors in Louisiana after Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He was retired at the time of his murder.
  2. He was shot in the head while sitting in Chacey’s Jeep. On the evening of Robert’s murder, Chacey called Robert claiming that she was stuck in the mud on an unmaintained county road in Royse City, Texas. He came to his wife’s rescue, only to be shot in the head. Chacey claimed that a man simply came out of the dark and killed Robert for no reason, but the truth was soon to emerge.
  3. Police were skeptical of Chacey’s story from the beginning. After she called 911, police arrived on the scene to discover that Robert was dead. While paramedics checked Chacey over, she began telling authorities what had happened to her husband, but her story was jumping all over the place and she soon also admitted she’d been having trouble in her marriage.
  4. Chacey later admitted the identity of who killed her husband. His name was Michael Garza, who police later determined had been working with Chacey to kill Robert in order to get at Robert’s $685,000 life insurance policy payout. Thankfully, his three daughters got that money and Chacey got nothing. Garza later turned himself in for the murder and Chacey was arrested not long after.
  5. She had been asking several men to kill her husband. Text messages between Chacey and several of the men she’d been having an affair with later exposed her requests to several men she’d been having an affair with to kill Robert. None of them complied, of course, and Chacey has since insisted that she wasn’t actually asking for anyone to murder her late husband.
  6. She’s since been sentenced to life in prison. According to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, Garza won’t be eligible for parole until September 2046 after being sentenced to 99 years behind bars. Poynter is serving a life sentence but will also be eligible for parole for the first time in September 2046. She probably shouldn’t get her hopes up for that to be approved.
