Chloe Moretz has called for “compassion” after opening up on the deep emotional toll becoming a meme on “Family Guy” took on her. 1. It all started because of a paparazzi picture. A photo that appeared online showed Moretz holding a pizza box as she went into a hotel. That picture went viral and was then depicted on “Family Guy” by a character named Legs Go All The Way Up Griffin with extremely long legs and a short torso. The meme went wild, and Moretz felt awful about herself.
  2. Moretz’s body was suddenly up for discussion. She couldn’t go online without seeing terrible comments, which took their toll. “Everyone was making fun of my body and I brought it up with someone and they were like, ‘Oh, shut the f**k up, it’s funny,'” she recalled. “And I just remember sitting there and thinking, my body is being used as a joke and it’s something that I can’t change about who I am, and it is being posted all over Instagram. It was something so benign as walking into a hotel with leftovers. And to this day, when I see that meme, it’s something very hard for me to overcome.”
  3. Now, Moretz is calling for more compassion. Speaking on the red carpet for her new series, The Peripheral, she said that people should have “compassion” for their fellow human beings and think more about the things they’re saying online and how they might affect people. “I think the big thing is that compassion is a really key thing in humanity and just being kind with the words that you say with one another, the things you say online,” she told Entertainment Tonight. “I think compassion is key and I hope the world can have a little more of that.”
  4. Hopefully, Moretz is feeling better about herself now. Memes can be hurtful, especially to people in the public eye who are already under constant public scrutiny. Chloe Moretz becoming a “Family Guy” meme shouldn’t make or break her. She’s beautiful as-is. She shouldn’t let anyone tell her any differently.
