Christopher Meloni Confirms Mariska Hargitay Will Appear On His ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Spinoff Show

With 2020 being mostly one big giant disaster, we need all the good news we can get. First, we found out that Christopher Meloni is getting his own Law & Order: SVU spinoff series. Then we found out that he’s going to reprise his role as Stabler on the SVU season premiere. Now it gets even better, as Meloni has confirmed that Mariska Hargitay will appear as Benson on his new show too. Crossovers for the win!

  1. I’ll take a Benson and Stabler reunion any day. Hargitay and Meloni as Benson and Stabler are one of the most iconic duos in television history. Many fans including myself were devastated when Meloni left SVU and we kinda thought we’d never get him back. Now that we are and these two beloved characters can be reunited, things just got super exciting again.
  2. It was only right for Benson to visit Stabler. Sure, he’ll be working in organized crime now rather than Special Victims, but it would make sense for the two to meet up, especially if a case of sex trafficking came up or something. I’m sure the writers can make it work!
  3. The details of Hargitay’s appearance on the SVU spinoff are vague. During an appearance on The Talk, Meloni confirmed that Hargitay would be on the show, enthusiastically replying, “Of course!” when asked. However, fans shouldn’t plan on it being a regular thing. “How much? I don’t know, because I hear she has her own day job,” he explained. “I think whatever we can slice away, whatever the writers come up with. I think we will both be looking forward to playing with each other in each other’s sandbox.” Yes, yes, and yes!
  4. Whatever happens, it’ll just be great to see them together again. Meloni and Hargitay go together like peanut butter and jelly and it’ll be amazing to see them back on screen together again for however long and in whatever capacity, whether on SVU or the spinoff. I can’t wait!
